>We wont, they wont and as you often point out the Chinese wont. So that's that for the environment (or rather our chances of survival in it).

So you're argument is that we just shouldn't bother trying to negate our damage to the environment, presumably?smiley - book

No Zagreb its not my argument at all its my sigh of resignation and despair regarding environmental protection/sustainable consumption. As SWL is amply showing and given the evidence my eyes give to me, out there on the steets there are too many peolpe who for one reason or another continue to take no meaningful action and instead resort to blaming others or pretending there just isnt a problem now nor bigger ones looming.

My position has already shaped my lfestyle so I wont suddenly be going out to chop down rainforests or be taking several short haul lights every month. I'll still be thinking about food miles and cycleing to work.

kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013

We have one of those deelies that tells you how much you are spending on the leccy. Just looking at the meter doesn't actually tell you very much because you'd have to know how much you had on there yesterday and do the conversion from the meter reading to cash and keep a running total in your head.

We have our deelie set so that it tells us the annual bill if we had everything switched on that is currently drawing power for a year. We discovered that switching the microwave off at the plug saves us £60 a year but leaving the telly on standby only costs a couple of quid. We already had low energy bulbs everywhere but seeing the amount of money on the deelie is a good encouragement to turn stuff off while you are not using it. Will be interesting to see if our usage goes down over the first 12 months of having the deelie compared to the previous 12 months.

I find the fuel taxes particularly hypocritical.

It would be valid to call it a green tax if the money was used to fund cycle lanes, public transport, and park and ride schemes - but it isn't ! The money is used to help pay for the illegal war, the interest on loans made to hospitals through PFI, and implementing a new education ploicy every 5 months.
