In the UK especially, we should be particularly cautious in deciding that 'We All Know' that someone is guilty.

Birmingham 6 + Guildford 4 + Maguire 7 + Bridgewater 3 = 20...and I could go on.

In the case of some of those people - and we could go on to mention the Birmigham Serious Crimes Squad - the people were know to be guilty - though not always with what they were charged with.

Then gather the evidence and put them on trial for that. Otherwise we end up with people being convicted for looking shifty. Or for acting in a manner likely to be useful for meeting police quotas.
