Afternoon all,
Just come of the phone having tried to replace a 'mislaid' OAP Concession Card for our local swimming pool.
It involved three different departments, all of whom were unflagging in their cheeryness, and only too happy to persist until the right 'system' was located.
I should get a new card in the post by Thursday.
Bloody marvellous service !!!!! , and I will write to them to say so.

I heard a good one today. Somebody bought a Wind Turbine and was checking with their Council if it was OK to put it up. First, they asked for £120 for the planning application, then they asked for *five* copies of his house plans. He pointed out that the Council already holds a copy of his house plans, but the reply was that they were held by a different department and they weren't allowed to use another department's copy. Another £160 to the architect then.

Expansion for "OAP" please? Not a household term/acronym in my part of the world. Have seen it used on h2g2 and have guessed at its meaning from context, but just want to be sure. Thanks.

JCN, an OAP = Old Aged Pensioner. Commonly referred to as a senior citizen over government retirement age (currently, in case of the UK, a female over 60 and a male over 65 - These ages will not last for long!)
Allowed such 'huge' benefits as free or reduced (depending on the local authority) transportation and leisure passes!

Thank you! As I thought ... it's what we in the US euphemistically refer to as a "senior citizen" ... and they also get certain discounts on a variety of things, usually at the discretion of individual vendors.
