I'm Z and I'm just popping around to say hello and welcome to h2g2, if you've got any questions about the site or just fancy a chat do feel free to ask me
You've probably noticed smilies, if you click on them you can find out how to put them into conversations. There's lots you can do here, are you interested in writing for The Guide? or in meeting people and chatting? both?
Soon they'll be an ACE around with an offical greeting for you!
Hi welcome to h2g2!

Ello, Z, and thanks for popping in.
I had no idea about h2g2 until I read Salmon of Doubt today (though I am, to the best of my ability, an avid reader of DNA's work). Glad I looked, forums aren't my forte but how could I not love something so diverse as this (and with DNA's name associated with it, no less)?
Anyway, I'd love to contribute, though I doubt I'd be of much use. I've not written outside of a classroom for .... a long time, anyway. Regardless, I intend to try and, hopefully, I'll be seeing you and others soon.
Hi welcome to h2g2!

You'll forgive me, I hope -- when I said I didn't know about h2g2, I meant I didn't know about the online community. I've known about the book series, of course, for about as long as I can read.
And when I rolled my eyes at you in my greeting, that was actually supposed to . I use AIM a lot and forget that in AIM is actually in just about every other media that uses smilies. (I'm not accustomed to using the preview button, either.)
Hi welcome to h2g2!

what a conincidence, I read salmon of doubt on Saturday! a brilliant book, I also read his biography on the same day (hey it was an 9 hour train journey), it has a whole chapter dedicated to the history of this site.
I didn't really like chatting to people on the internet, before I came here, but forums on this site, are well, different, it's hard to explain.
There's no need to be worried about not having written for while. As you can tell from my name and from what I'm writing I'm not terribly got at expressing myself in English (and evenworse in other languages). H2g2 has helped me learn to edit my first drafts, and I've even had something accepted for a magazine recently. Gosh that sounds like an advert for one of those writting courses they sell in Sunday papers.
There are plenty of ways you can contribute to the guide if you don't feel up to writing an whole article yourself..
You can go to the talking point on the front page, (you get there by clicking on the logo in the corner, or the orange button on the top of the screen) After a week of debate the eds come up with an article including particulaly good quotes from the debate.
Also we have our own newspaper <./>thepost</.> full of news views and stories each Thursday the Bookworms club, our onsite bookgroup. A745544 have a book reivew each week. Written by our members, we're always after avid readers to contribute. This is the archive of reviews that we've written - A1055134
