smiley - erm Have you had your eyes tested recently? If your sight's a bit dodgy, you might not notice it, but it can cause pretty bad headaches, especially if you're squinting at a computer screen for long periods.

I wear glasses and contacts, contacts most of the time, but i can tell if a headache is being brought on by them, so take them out.

but my eyesight is quite bad, so need strong lenses, but i should be used to having strong lenses

Hmmmmm... but if your eyesight changes all the time. I've had glasses since I was about 6 and it still changes slightly every time I get my eyes tested... so yours could be getting worse without you realising it. Just a thought. Or you could be allergic to wood, or something. smiley - erm

I've had them since i was 11, they were pretty much the same from then up until about 6 months ago, when i was given a higher prescription for them, just slightly worse

I do sit at a wooden desk....could be the treatment that is given to it? Mr Sheen

That could be it, it could be too highly polished, and the reflected glare is hurting your eyes and causing headaches.

It could be any number of things, I don't know. I'm not a doctor of medicine, remember.

You could try acupuncture, that's really helpful for almost everything.

Yeah i was reading a guide entry on here about migraines that said acupuncture worked for someone. If it doesn't start to ease up then i may try it

I may be a softie but sticking pins in your eyes sounds a bit drastic to me.

Dare I suggest a couple of days (if your work/studies permit this) AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER????

Sometimes I find it works wonders - there are also a few eye exercises you can do...no, stop laughing, I'm being serious now!

1) Remember the old optical illusion where you hold a toilet roll or rolled up piece or paper in the V between your thumb and first finger held up in front of your face? One eye looks directly at your hand and one through the tube so it looks as if there's a hole in your hand! If you gaze through the tube at a distant object for a few minutes each day (the swapping hands and eyes to even it up!). This can help getting your eyes to re-focus at distant objects (which as a smiley - book reading smiley - geek you wont be doing anywhere nearly enough of) independantly and therefore helping even out dominance.

2) Fingertip/pencil-tip to nose - hold your finger/pen/pencil vertically at arms length out in front of your nose and keeping both eyes focussed on it, bring the object as close as you can toward your nose until you can't focus any more. This'll actually exercise your muscles and get your eyes fit and can also help with astigmatism.

These are exercises that have been given to me by various opticians over the years, not that I've ever stuck to the regime though and I wouldn't advise you doing them whilst driving...smiley - laugh

no i've not tried those but i did put this bean baggy thing on my neck, you put it in the microwave to heatr it up then it soothes you, it does smell of burnt lavender, but its nice and warm.

Anyway, that took off the pain after about half an hour or so, and i was told that migraines are caused by a blood vessel closing up, so the heat re-opens it or something....?

and i have heard about people doing eye excercises which improved your eyesight if you stuck with them...but it was someone on richard & judy talking about it, so am not sure...

Also, as a computer operator (under UK Health and Safety law...this is LAW...not just a guideline or recommendation), for up to a 7.5 hour shift you have to have a full half hour's break (any more you need a one hour break), with a micro-screen break (focus on something on the far wall in the office for a few mins, get up and go do yourself a coffee, go to the loo, have a fag break even if you don't smoke) every 40 mins (I think, you may need to check the exact timing with your H&S person).

You can also claim your eye test back (up to £20) - you'll have to ask your company how their system works. Usually something toward the glasses too if you only need them to work at your screen with
