h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Finally, the First of November has arrived. A very special day for Doc and I.

Doc is a friend I've known since meeting a group of like-minded people who'd been photographing fibreglass elephants dotted around London in 2010. Details can be found here: A84729603

After meeting for a 11 weeks ago, we are now officially in a relationship. and this weekend we are off to Bristol. Hotel booked, rail tickets received and assisted travel arranged.

Meet for takeaway and then get help onto the train for 14.00.

It is a 2 hour journey and we soon arrive in Bristol. We've both been before, once to see fibreglass Wow Gorillas exhibition celebrating 175 years of Bristol Zoo, and Albert, their celebrated Gorilla.

We also visited to see the Gromits which were on display this year,

Unfortunately, the queues were so long we visited the S.S. Great Britain instead, as we only had5 hours in Bristol.

So we decided we'd return and see other parts of Bristol we'd not had a chance to see.

The first problem arose as I'd booked the wrong carriage. Intended to book the quiet carriage, but booked a standard carriage. . Luckily it wasn't too noisy.

On arrival, we were met and had assistance to the taxi rank, and then onto the hotel.

Now for the second problem. Wrong hotel. I'd intended to book into an Ibis hotel in the centre of Bristol, ideal for attractions, restaurants and bars, but instead was 400 metres from the station, with nothing around it, so taxi back. . It was now 19.00, so a quick spruce-up and decided to eat in the hotel restaurant. I had steak pie and mash, while Doc had piri-piri chicken. Very reasonable, and a bottle of white . We retired to the lounge and had a go at a competition that ids running in London. Feel free to try it yourself…

Around 23.00 we retired. The room was standard Ibis, but rather warm. Also it appeared we'd visited during Stag-Hen party weekend.

All in all, a mixed day, but at least we were in Bristol.

It is. Appears there are 101, with quite a number on the Docklands Light Railway.

What a genius idea to increase travel, make more money. I'd play if I could!

SF, go to the TfL website, and tube maps, then open standard map pdf. Below the map is a full list of stations. Be warned, some are real cryptic snorters, or semi-phonetic names.

A few spooky coincidences between the Doc and I, and my Dad and my Step-Mum.

1) My Dad met S/M during Broadstairs folk week, in the second week of August although over 20 years ago. The Doc and I started our relationship the weekend after Broadstairs folk week this year. However the difference is we'd known each other for 3 years.

2) The difference between the ages of my Dad and S/M and the Doc and I is 15 years.

3) The relationship was made public after 10 weeks.
