But there is still so much to do. I am determined though for once in my life to unpack everything and find proper places. One of the best things about new digs is for the first time in my adult life I actually have:-

a) a nice flat and
b) a spare room.

So I really intend to actually be able to have people staying for once. That means not using spare room as a box room (even though every fibre of my lazy, messy, hoarder DNA is exhorting me to do just that ).

I am actually going to make myself a proper cleaning rota, to make sure I keep the place spik and span. I can't wait. Just wish there wasn't so much to do.

Got water now, though not hot, so shower at work tomorrow and extra socks in bed tonight!

Clean when it needs it... tidy regularly, that's enough for just one of you.

So, when's the housewarming? What are the neighbours like? Do you have a hot water bottle?

Well the reason why the flat is so cheap (I wouldn't normally be able to afford it) is because the neighbour downstairs is difficult....

She has a real problem with noise and has had masive conflicts with previous neighbours and this has meant the flat is often empty. My mate just wants me to cover his mortgage now really, so win/win.

Crucially she doesn't make much noise herself so I don't care if she is a little batty as long as she doesn't listen to stupidly loud dance music all the time like happened at my last flat.

Yeah, it'll make a change for you to be the noisy neighbour for once!

I'm quite relishing the prospect... It was all I could do not to tell her I was a drummer in a thrash metal band when I spoke to her. I even considered borrowing a drum kit so I could be seen moving it in.

However I decided being fawningly nice in the hope of disarming her and giving me a quiet life in both senses would probably be more sensible.

Revisiting this I didn't realise quitwe how batty she is. We are talking about howling at the moon mad.

Suddenly the 225 quid a month off the commercial rent I am getting makes a whole lot of sense.

Still a million miles better than the old place.
