I have not been here very often since Christmas,so have missed the problems that set-top box users are having here.
I would just like to explain that my box is different to the Telewest box. I cannot get any T.V. channels, only the Internet.
It is paid for by Lo-Cost phone charges. No other charges.
It sounds similer to the Telewest box. in that there is a list of sites on the Bush Internet Homepage, but I can get many more, not just British sites. Limits are no Java sites, no Flash and no sound.

Hello Pamela smiley - smiley

The difference seems to be that the Telewest people were not actually paying any charges for their access.

And now Telewest have been made aware of this they have stopped the "free" access. It seems fair enough to me.

I do think that more people need internet access and set top boxes can have a part to play in this (not everyone wants the headaches of a computer even if they can afford it) , but everyone needs to pay their own way.

Have you (as a person who uses a set top box) ever felt the need to lapse into text messaging? I never did, I hate text messaging talk.

Hello Brown Furby. I've never tried texting. Not sure what letters to leave out. When I first had my box it worked with ITV Digital and had SMS but when the station went ,so did that.I didn't have the station.that was only with subscription.
A while ago a friend was talking about MSN.Out of curiosity I called the helpline about it and they said I could get it from one of the websites. I did try, but found out I had to download it, I couldn't do that ,so have given up for now.
I don't know a lot about the Telewest situation, except what I've been reading here.I wiil admit that in the sixties I listened to pirate radio, which was technically illegal. It was easily available and it was good, so I listened. So, I can't blame Telewest users. It seems that it would it solve the problem if Telewest could make it legal to access the Internet, without overloading the system. They could then charge extra for those who want it, and block it for those who don't. Would it be possible technically to do this? Someone will probably know how. Or they will know why it can't be done. We shall see.
From Pamela.
