Friday Song Quiz 5
Icy North Started conversation Jan 4, 2018
As I’m not around on Friday, here’s the Friday Quiz a day early:
Below you'll find a number of words taken from song titles - all were top 5 singles in the UK. But I've removed a word from each song (the removed words are all different, and do not appear elsewhere in the list).
You need to rearrange this list into six song titles, adding a new word to make each.
Then take the words you've added, and rearrange them to make another song title.
Finally, here’s a clue which will help and hinder you in equal measure: “The Beatles”.
Good luck!

I'm sure it must be Friday *somewhere*. it's a big world, after all.
Now I will watch the blizzicane dump snow on my yard while I wait for others to solve this. After I see the answers, I will say, "why didn't I think of that?"

Probably a wise move. This one's a bit sneaky, and you may not know all the songs in the US (but you'll know most)

This is my first attempt at this, although I've followed the others, but wasn't quick enough off the mark.
I have come up with:
the carnival IS over
dancing QUEEN
Do they KNOW it's Christmas
I will survive
Hang on SNOOPY
Be MY baby
Which gives me the nonsensical solution: I KNOW SNOOPY IS MY QUEEN
and leaves an IN and a YOU out.
So it's back to the drawing board.

I figured ABBA would be included.
Shouldn't it be Hang on *SloopY*?

Is my memory wrong, or was it 'Hang On, Sloopy?' I didn't think Snoopy had anything to do with that song.

Great minds think alike, Dmitri. Your mind is probably greater than mine, but I'm not shy about basking in reflected glory.
But consider the rules of the quiz: You're supposed to add *one* extra word, no more and no less. That extra word will be combined with extra words from other song titles to form another song title.
There's the rub. "hang on Sloppy" has *three* words. So adding only one word to "hang" doesn't give you the complete song title. Then you face having "Sloopy" as the extra word that combines with five other words for a new song title. How many other great songs have "sloopy" in their title?
Not likely.

Peccable logic is for when my dark side emerges. Some day I may overcome my sloth and get a cell phone capable of taking a picture. Until then, you'll just have to imagine the mother of all sloths.
Or get hold of an "ice Age" video.

I'd totally listen to a song with the title "Snoopy Is My Queen"...

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Jan 5, 2018
I think "You should be Dancing" is one of the songs.
But I can't place "hang" in any song except "Hang On Sloopy" and that's not the answer because "Sloopy" isn't in any other song title.
Icy said the answer was sneaky. Could "Hang" be part of a Chinese or Korean word? Or a nonsense word like 'Ning tong iddle I po' ?

No, the sneaky bit is that none of the words given form part of the sixth song title - it's just one word long and we need to find that word. The only clue is that it is something to do with the Beatles...

Actually, I misread your posting. Yes, that is correct. < ok>

You mean it's just one long word like supercalifragilisticexpialidocious?
Another song with "Hang" in the title is "Hang down your head Tom Dooley" but, apart from the fact that it contains too many unlisted words, I doubt it was ever in the UK top 5.

Out of my amateurish attempt which, according to Icy, wasn't completely wrong, I am hoping that the following are correct,
The carnival IS over
I will survive
Leaving key words
Christmas
baby
dancing
hang
And the remainder are:
be
do
in
it's
on
they
you
And the answer contains the words "I" and "IS". And could be a song by the Beatles, or not.
