Friday quiz - What Connects?
Icy North Started conversation Mar 31, 2017
What connects the following:
Sepp Blatter
Hermann Goering
Clint Eastwood
Bobby Charlton
As ever, I do have an answer in mind, but please post any suggestions you can come up with.

I'm thinking about corruption of some sort -- Goering and Blatter took kickbacks, apparently.
Then again, the World Cup is a common link for Blatter and Charlton.

I'll leave you to ponder that one and come up with something creative. I'll reveal my solution on Monday.

I do not follow British , so I am only familiar with half of the names on the list.
However I will go out on a limb and suggest they have all appeared in a film. With a further leap I will suggest that all four are credited for producing a documentary.

Goering played himself in the documentary "Triumph of the will" and 15 other documentaries.
Eastwood filmed some documentaries. I don;t know about the other two names.

The other two names:
Sepp Blatter played himself in "The referees."
Bobby Charlton played himself in a number of documentaries.

ok, I said I'd reveal the solution on Monday...
All of these folks have been honoured by Japan. They were awarded the Order of the Rising Sun medal for various reasons.
It's an unusual medal in that it has various classes. Sepp Blatter and Hermann Goering achieved the first class (Grand Cordon). Clint Eastwood received 3rd class (Gold Bars with Neck Ribbon), whereas Bobby Charlton was 4th class (Gold Bars with Rosette)

It currently goes all the way down to 8th class, and there is a separate higher honour for visiting heads of state, etc - the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum.
A few other Rising Sun awardees you may have heard of:
1st class - Malcolm Fraser, John Major, Donald Rumsfeld
4th class - George Takei
---
But your 'played themselves in documentaries' connection is impressive

I did know that George Takei had been so honoured.
Goering had so many medals and bogus honours it was impossible to keep track.

Are there bogus honours?
Are there genuine honours to be given out by a junta (useful pejorative term) for that matter?
I see The Ventures were awarded the Order of the Rising Sun in 2010.
