smiley - wow I am amazed.

That explains Maru, one of my favourite Youtube performers:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDRrTqzpDDU

If Maru finds a box, Maru must be IN the box. There are many hilarious Maru-and-box videos. It's a thing. And the cat is a real personality: round-headed and grumpy but determined-looking. smiley - cat

I note that Japanese cats say smiley - nahnah. Somehow, this seems appropriate.

It's good to be the cat.

Now YOU'VE got me doing it...

Here. This is the funniest piece of in-depth research I have ever read in my life.

Be sure you get to the mini-reviews of the Japanese cat cafes...you know, when you really need a cup of tea and a cat fix. smiley - rofl

I can think of one cat that would not be welcome in Japan: Bucky Katt, star of the comic strip "Get Fuzzy:"

http://mimihalley.blogspot.com/2009/03/bucky-katt-calls-em-like-he-sees-em.html

Bucky is a Siamese cat with an attitude. He thinks Japan has the world's worst national anthem, as you'll see by scrolling down in the link.

Did you read the lyrics to the Japanese national anthem? They're awesome!

'May your kingdom last until pebbles grow into rocks covered with moss', something like that. Unbelievable.

I read Get Fuzzy regularly. One day a few weeks ago I noticed, and now can't not notice, how phallic the cats and dogs look while standing upright.

And now y'all won't be able to unsee it either. Sorry.

smiley - laugh That's okay. I don't take a paper with comics anymore. (I got out of the habit before the last eye surgery.)

I read my comics online.

http://www.gocomics.com/getfuzzy

My local paper still nominally has a comics page. But there aren't any really good comics in it. The daily comics page is now just 6 strips, Garfield, Blondie, Beetle Bailey, Hagar, Hi & Lois, and Peanuts. But the Sunday comics page is perplexing. They carry The Phantom and Funky Winkerbean. Why!? These are serialized comics with complicated story arcs that are developed mostly in the dailies. As Sunday only comics they nothing more than a series of non sequiturs. smiley - facepalm Oh, and of course they carry Family Circus. The unfunniest strip of all time.

Oh, yuck. smiley - laugh

Comics were better in the olden days. Pogo...now, THAT was a comic. I didn't mind Calvin and Hobbes, either.

Bloom County has resumed on FaceBook; Berkeley Breathed felt he had to bring the crew back once Trump started running for president.

My memory has faded enough that I can reread C&H on that same website.

They also have the new Bloom County strips (after a few days delay from Berke Breathed's Boofcake page)

Gnomon - time to move on

My daughter was in Japan a month ago and went to a Cat Café. She also passed a café where all the waitresses were dressed in maid costumes with cat ears.

I have an Anime DVD titled "All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Purpose_Cultural_Cat_Girl_Nuku_Nuku

"The story begins when genius inventor Kyusaku Natsume transplants the brain of a cat found by his son Ryunosuke on Christmas Eve, into a schoolgirl android that he created and subsequently stole from his former employer, Mishima Heavy Industries (owned by his estranged wife and Ryunosuke's mother, Akiko Natsume). The result, Nuku Nuku (also known as Atsuko Natsume), is a nekomusume or cat girl."

Well, if you'll actually watch Japanese anime with cat schoolgirl androids in, you'll probably love the old Post serial, 'Bertie and the Beast': A3737081
