Icy North

I haven't written a maths-themed journal for a while, so here's a geometry quiz smiley - smiley

You'll need a ruler, a pencil and a compass.

If you're as clever as Gnomon, then see if you can do this one in your head smiley - smiley

* * *

Start by drawing a circle with a midpoint O.

1. Draw a diameter of the circle, label the ends C and M.

2. Construct a perpendicular to CM at O.

3. Mark a point S where this perpendicular bisector intersects the circle.

4. Draw the perpendicular bisector of the line segment SO, creating its midpoint L.

5. Draw a circle, center L, with radius LS.

6. Draw a line from M through L, intersecting the small circle at N and P.

7. With the compass on M, set its width to P.

8. Draw a broad arc, crossing the large circle at A and E.

9. With the compass on M, set its width to N.

10. Draw a broad arc, crossing the large circle at B and D.

What have you just constructed? smiley - smiley

I rough sketched it... It looks familiar... But I could be mistaken.

If I'm correct, it's in profile. smiley - erm

Well, to be perfectly honest, I could be suffering from pareidolia exacerbated by my particular location of my labels. My 'L' is looking like the pupil of an eye.

You can call me TC

Like Dmitri, I could visualise it up to a point. But right from the start I was thinking to myself "is this Homer Simpson?"

Which would explain the "Greek" bit..... geddit?

You can call me TC

Sorry - meant to say that I'm in bed and can't be bothered to go and get pencil, paper and compass etc.

Good luck to those with equipment to hand. I feel as though I'm being disrespectful to Icy by not doing it properly.

Well, I'm definitely as clever as Gnomon, so I've done it in my head, and have got a scene for a sex scandal.

Have it drawn, I cheated and used AutoCad, I can see the face with the large eye and round nose. It looks very familiar - but I can't quite put a name with it! smiley - sorry it is either an old comic strip or computer game - it is not Mickey!

I will go for Maw from Snuffy Smith.

Now I have to see the answer
