I love this theatre story from last week. At the opening night of Chekhov's 'Uncle Vanya', eminent director Sir Peter Hall disrupts the final scene by shouting from his front row seat: "It doesn't work and you don't work. It is not good enough. I could be at home watching television."

So was the play so awful that it could drive Sir Peter to issue this outburst? Well, no, apparently. He claims that he fell asleep, then when his wife woke him he become disorientated. He enjoyed the evening immensely.
Clearly not so much that he could stay awake for the duration.
And I wonder what he was thinking about that caused this outrage. Was he reliving a bad rehearsal he attended? The words are pretty general, though. He could have been dreaming about the AA fixing his car at the roadside.
I guess he's lucky in some respects. If he's been reading the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy scene with the Golgafrinchams, he could have ended up shouting "You're all a load of useless bloody loonies."

I read that, too, but I didn't find out what he said.
Old folks do that, you know - wake up and shout weird things at the TV. They should give him a break - they might be old and silly someday, too.

Heard that story too. A small voice in my head suggests that the 'I'm and old man' excuse was.... well. An excuse.
Ah that's it, that was the reason. Bloody brilliant. Thanks for reminding me icy. Good old David Jason.
