KAT's Aims For The Summer
Kat - From H2G2 Started conversation Jun 8, 2005
So I reckon it must be officially summer now...at least by proper person standards rather than calander standards. This means that usually it would be exam season and coming up to the summer holidays, which are always a time when I make all sorts of decisions that don't last until school starts again.
Seeing as I'm actually going back to school this year, I thought I'd start it again. Anyone who wants to join in is very welcome.
1) Stop biting and picking my finger nails plus the skin around them.
2) Do at least an hour and a half piano practice every day (I know I keep changing this one, it's all about finding the right balance)
3) Actually finish my h2 entries about Liszt and duvets
4) Spend at least 30 mins outside every day
5) Not cut or take more than 6 tablets at any given time.
6) stretch my hands and thumbs every day
7) all piano scales and apeggios will be properly learnt, instead of just basic 'I've got an exam, I ought to know these' level.
8) Keep a record of what I'm actually spending money on and cut back in trivial areas of spending.
9) Keep volunteering three-four days a week
10) Find a job?
What about other people? Anything, big or as small as you like, be it doing work on your thesis, not eating a bar of chocolate every day, remembering to replace the toilet roll when you've used the last of the old one....

Ummmm....... *thinks* I should stop procrastinating when it comes to doing school work, and I should do some situps each day if I 'm not going to the gym, and I should stop keeping my brother up at night with my typing. *glances over at her brother in his bed* None of these will happen.... although I should really try to stop procrastinating... earlier today, I decided that memorising a few more of the digits of p1 than just 3.14 would be more fun that school work. So I bothered memorising them up to 3.14159265358979323846264 I need a life.

I'm going to
a.) Get and enjoy a job (one in pipeline with company I'm 'work shadowing');
b.) Use job and EMA money to pay off debts;
c.) Improve my French;
d.) Learn to cook a meal that doesn't involve pasta or frozen food.
Maybe other things

1. Plot out Medraut
2. Write at least an hour daily (I have this problem of not writing for days because I'm sick of creating sympathetic characters or I'm too engrossed in books or exams, and then there's times when I don't sleep all weekend, cranking out prose... If I can only balance)
3. Try to keep a journal, again
4. Do a meaningful deed every day
5. Remember to feed Ryan the turtle in proper intervals
6. Try to survive the summer heat, with serenity and reason (last year it was chaos and eccentricities)

Hi Kat
Good List Good Luck
****
I am going to do some searches for family history stories in very old newspapers.
I will attempt to find an original birth certifictate or a copy.
My legal BC was issued in 1958 when I was adopted at almost 6 years old. Never seen my original one.
I am going to drink less coffee and more water.
I am going to finish sewing the window coverings for my new windows.
I want to work at keeping my sleeping/wake schedule the same since it's finally good.
I hope to sit in the woods alone for a bit.
I want to cook more. My kitchen is supposed to be getting adapted to my current skills
I want to get back to talking on the phone more, a hands free phone helps.
I would love some more independance, speedy wheels would be fun.
I am going to start to wear my nice clothes that I was saving
around the house
Be nice if I thought about giving up smoking again but cannot say that today The money I saved would help pay for some of those things mentioned above *sigh*

Finish the first two-thirds of my dissertation.
Get bunches of projects finished up for work, and publish lots more boring papers.
Remember to eat normally more often.
Go to the gym rather than sitting at home feeling guilty about the expensive gym membership that isn't getting used enough.
Survive my family's visit.
Pay off 2 credit cards.
Make new friends at church.
-- Already did that last one this week, but I always need to add something onto the list that can be immediately checked off.

Gosh everyone's got very worthwhile aims! I'm impressed!
Let me know how they all go won't you!
Had a piano lesson today. Got the word 'excellent' five times! Although admittedly not about scales or arpeggios. I did also stretch my hands.
I've also been keeping a chart of 'self-harm things' and a chart of 'good useful things'. So for example, the self-harm one has things like cutting on and the good chart has wearing clean clothes. It's very satisfying to be able to put a tick next to something each day.
Then again...there's potential there for making charts for absolutely everything just so you have something to tick...
Wake up...TICK!

My brother made a to-do list for school mornings.
He then added "Wake up" and "Get up" to the top as an afterthought

My goals:
1. Try to realise that the computer is not the be-all and end-all of my existence.
2. Let schoolwork take priority over everything else, if I want to keep that GPA up.
3. Do something better than my great rival, who always does things better than me.
4. Read all those books that I've heard of and never read.

Kat it may not work for you but I still like gold stars ( from school days)on the calendar when I did all I wanted or needed to do when making changes
They can add up.
You can use different colors for different things that you did do well or as intended. If you do not feel you rate a gold one for any given day there are surely things you did right, or did not do rightly. It becomes an easy way to keep a jouranal without writing. It is tangible proof

I may be getting OLD (even though Kat tried to pluck my grey hairs), but I still resort to the stickers on a calendar trick when I need to.
It works for me.
