This weekend will be one of the better ones I will have been having...had, umm, yeah, in a long time. The 29th, HHGTTG comes out in theaters, so I'll be seeing that, and then theres a concert up in Ballard. The Insurgence is playing, which are (is?) a great local band, who would be huge if they'd only play more shows, so Yea! And then Schoolyard Heros is playing. Also local, and very strange.
Very dark sound, kinda like NIN or Tool, but something special about them. It really works.
Listening to them is like looking at a painting by H.R. Giger. (Guy who paints all that creepy biomechanical looking stuff, like the movie Alien)
It's foreign, strange, and terrifying, but at the same time, oddly graceful and beautiful. I like SYH. Seen them a few times.
Guess it doesn't hurt that the chick singer is hot.
Way it goes...

Hey, glad you're going to have a good weekend...
For me the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is continuing this weekend. It started last weekend, and it is 2 solid weeks of live music. Don't let the name fool you, it's mostly rock and blues, but on some of the smaller stages you can catch jazz, gospel, and cajun/zydeco. And a lot of food and drink too. I'd like to make it out there this weekend, but I'm not sure if I'll get a chance to go. I wish I had gone last weekend, but...well...got busy...etc...

!
Not sure if I'm doing anything this weekend (got to check if there's any good movies or anything), but on Sunday there's a poetry reading in this really nice little cafe downtown by a poet I love, Agi Mishol. I've already heard her on a couple of accasions, and just got her last book the other day, so I'll probably bring it over and try to have it signed.
Yay, aren't I feeling like an artist-intellectual-type-chick! *shrug*

Okay, in order to mend this image... Monday I might be going to see a rock band called Prozdor (corridor). Never heard them before, but they seem , and tickets are pretty cheap, and I like the venue where they'll be playing.
Depends if I can finish this paper I need to write, though...

After all, that's what the last minutes are for! And that's when everything gets done anyway.

Yup.
And after 30-something hours of staying awake you go into this weird semi-hyper state when you start thinking 'hey, wonder how long I can keep this up?'.

Jack Kerouac wrote 'On the Road' while staying awake for 20 days straight.
'Course, he was so buzzed up on methamphetamines at the time, that people thought he was cold, he couldn't stop shaking.
...this reminds me. Time for some coffee!
Good luck. And have fun at the show(?)

Saturday Flop
Jay Posted May 2, 2005
Ok, so my Saturday turned into a flop! Some friends and I had planned to go to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, but Saturday morning it was raining so I decided not to go. Yeah, I know, I wimped out, but I just didn't want to stomp around in the rain and mud.
Sunday, however, I saw the HHGG movie. I thought it was very good. I liked the casting, especially Zaphod, and the story, although a little different, stayed fairly true to the series.
Anyway, back to work today, hoping the week will go quickly...

Hmm...
Did go Monday eventually, with my sister. Prozdor were a pretty banal band (on the way home we realised we can't remember any of the tunes ) but we had a good time anyway.
Basically, they weren't a _good_ band, but they were cute - they were obviously having fun playing, which is always nice to see. And there was a tiny audience, about half of which seemed to be friends of the band and the rest random people like us, so that kinda makes you feel closer to the band. It was fun.
