We've come a long way. ...ish. I just saw "Sin City". Not really because I wanted to, or because I thought it would be a good movie or anything. I mean, c'mon! You've all seen the previews!
Babes, and guns. It's like catnip to a guy in my demographic.
Anyway, I've yet (longshot, but still) to see "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow", but both of these movies were filmed entirely without location shots. They were entirely done with the actors on a green screen stage, and everything else was later inserted. I can't imagine all the carpenters and set designers in Hollywood enjoying the wave of the futuristic, since someday, they won't be needed anymore.
Now all we have to do is get rid of all the actors who keep getting paid millions of dollars and we can start getting on with making this place a better one.
Then maybe it will one day be revolutionary to film a movie with an actual real world location.
Viva la progress.

Speaking of new movies, my friend Karla and I saw "Hitch" last weekend...we weren't expecting much, just wanted to be entertained for an hour and a half...

Wasn't there a film some time ago that was all computer graphics? Some horrible movie version of a computer game or something like that?

It's all Obi-wan's fault! He's holding me back!
My preference leans towards real locations/sets, helps the actors' performances IMHO. Though I love digital processing to enhance the meaning of the image ala 'Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?'

You mean Final Fantasy? I thought that was pretty good, just a CG kids cartoon movie like what Disney makes or more interesting. The English dub (Aflec!) was annoying tho.

Final Fantasy? I'm thinkin' TRON! But that was a great movie. ...in the way that all the MST3K movies are great movies. But enough about that. I never saw OBrother where art thou... But it's halfway to a good example. Even with real actors and sets, almost nothing is left alone. Everything is retouched, rerendered, redone.
Nothing is sacred anymore. We can't escape these computer middlemen. There is no bypass from the action to the viewer. I'm not drunk enough by half. Take it easy, all!

That's true even without computers. Only home videos are really a >>bypass from the action to the viewer<<

<?> (I tried IMDb for 'End of Line' and couldn't come up with anything that makes sense... you lost me here)
Oh, and that was Final Fantasy I was talking about. When it came out they sorta made a big deal of the fact it wasn't using any actual actors. *shrug* I don't know, I remember reading about it and deciding it doesn't seem like something I'd ever want to watch.

Yeah, Dave... what the heck is END OF LINE?
anyway, FF was okay. You didn't really miss too much. But if things keep going the way they are, then one day it will be referred to as the orgin of modern cinema.
I have to concede it was a cutting edge idea.

Tron....The evil master computer always said END OF LINE at the end of each conversation.
