h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Ok I have promised myself this journal will be kept to talking about my view on h2g2 only so here goes.

There appears to be lots of entries coming forward from people, which is wonderful. I love reading many of them, being introduced to new subjects and finding out about the world we live in. I myself have been hard at work (depending on perception) on two entries for the Guide. One on Golliwogs which I saw potential with and think it has grown …I do hope Nother likes it as much as I do. The other entry is on the author of the Moomins and will I hope make for a lovely addition to the Guide one day. To me writing biographies are great because you can see where people came from and where they are now. Everyone has an individual journey and so do many of the entries that are created on h2g2. Some even end up having beeblecasts/guidecasts formed on them and I have a couple of ideas up my sleeves for making a couple of the entries I have worked on receive that treatment such as the one on the Golden Retriever. She doesn’t know it yet but my fair pooch may become a celebrity on h2g2 I particularly liked a fellow researcher’s one about her dog which I believe was featured in the post and like hers I think it would be great to see my dog in pictures on her usual walk round the village I live in take shape. Talking about photography, I am due to do some perfecting of my own handiwork today with a walk round Oxford. Perhaps these pictures could lead to something on h2g2 who knows. Some pictures may even land in the future issue of The Post. Talking of which please do read it. I enjoy reading it and taking part in it and love reading fellow researchers comments to my questions. You lot are brilliant and don’t you forget it.

most of the time i use the cablebox, very limited, but ive been around for nearly 7 years.

its my home from home, i can acsess anytime day or night, if cables not having probs.

i have written things to my 1mb limit, then continued at the cybercafe. i had two on sci fi, but not good enough for thepost, need polish, so i just went for something else, its been sent to thepost, might appear and might not, upto skankyrich and the post team.

I have been thinking about a writing a story for about how view people who are different through the allegory of possessing special abilities but I did not want to look a x-men rip-off.

The range of subjects written on h2g2 are very good and varied.

Ahh as they say there are no new ideas. What is generated is just a different perception/view of looking on things. One could say that the term 'Optis Observations' is taking off 'Random Ramblings' or JK Rowling has taken from CS Lewis and Tolkien. So you see your idea for may well work and have many followers. You never know until you try.

its people like you that make H2G2 what it is , , and i am glad there are quite a few , but only one Opti.
Thinkeri enjoy reading what you have to say about life the universe and everything-just as much as i do Optiplease keep us up to date on your story idea, thier are alot of creative people here that i never fail to get inspiration from.

i have had a story idea, for a long time now-it is a cartoon strip, and i have wrote the first episode and have some background but have left it there. I wanted to create a superhero aswell-but someone not of the DC or 2000AD mould ( well actually he would fit right in probably ) my character is a superhero mechanic-a down to earth, safe hands-easy going, strong - stocky kinda fellah with a whole bunch of friends . I havnt let him have any superhero powers only his down to earth, common sense: which everybody seeks whern they need advice-but i have toyed with the idea that some of his friends have superhero powers ( or even all of them ) but this guy is just a regular human - " a rock ": his name is Firran ( pronounced: "Fir" as in the soft hairy stuff, and "ran" pron "r" then "an" :as in another- Firran ).

I wanted to make a superhero, that was not your usual, cop, or the like-mario brothers came to mind now those guys are plumbers-and as one guy said -who else in the world but Nintendo could make a couple of dwarfish Italian plumbers international superheroes- my friend at least looks more like a superhero: i will have to write the next episode.

Inspiration...yes that is sometimes a tricky one to track down and hold on to before it flies away again. I often find ideas come to me on walks but don't have a pen handy so by the end of the walk I have forgotten it.

loftskywalker Yes there's only ever one Opti unless you count the one in the mirror. with that cartoon it sounds great. Cartoons appear to be something struggles to obtain so do go ahead and I look forward to seeing your published work and the Thinkers soon.

i found when i write a guide, its usually when something bugs me, or just comes into my head.

i tryed to write outside what i call"my comfort zone" but didnt work out well, and thepost, didnt want it.

i sent one a few weeks ago, what i call, on topic,but ive no idea yet if it will be acsepted this time, i cant afford the trip to a cyber, to many things to payout.

Did offer up any type of constructive criticism that could be worked upon? This has happened to me in the past and they gave me great help in suggesting how to turn it around.

Btw that cartoon wont be going in the post, its for me really and not been worked on for ages-maybe i will finish it in a couple of years. However i might try my hand at something simlilar for the post-or whoever.

Yes that was for me a little private project, i have sketched the first episode, and scribbled alot of ideas for stories from it-i like it, it is the first cartoon i have drawn, but i havnt added to it in ages.

ive done what i can, im no writer, as i said an idea, and it works, just asnt the fire it needs. i went out of my usual writings. the best i ever did apart from the bradford buildings was for the ww2, took 7 months or more of reach, and a lady did the page.
