Opticalillusion- media mynx life would be boring without hiccups

Christmas to me is primarily to remember christ. However, society today seems to suggest that it is possibly more of a capitalist stunt. Charities should receive our good will and not be left out this christmas and of course we shouldn't forget our loved ones. Talking of loved ones mine spend a lot of money on me and although this is really nice i cant help feeling bad about it cos I watch my money and find it extremely difficult to buy them things. Of course those close to me on h2g2 can understand exactly who i have in mind in particular and who i need help for. It is very difficult for me who isn't sure of what they desire for a xmas present. they've mentioned jewellery but i can't see them wearing it and also feel that if they've suggested it then its not a surprise right. So to whoever is out there reading my christmas plea. Don't forget loved ones, care for charities and please help me make my bf's xmas a special one.

hi hun problems problems lol well dont get yourself in a fluster if you cant afford jewellery and you think he wont wear it then dont get him any get him something personal to show you love him , i always buy too much for my missus as i like to spoil her and if your other half likes to spoil you then let him . not all men like wearing jewellery i do like wearing it not loads i may add but if you do feel the need to purchase some jewellery and your funds dont stretch too far then there are pawn shops i dont mean go pawning your stufff but you could pick up a bargain smiley - ok

Thanks owlatron for your suggestion smiley - smiley the money problem is mainly problematic because of going to america for xmas..... but it is also all that i've already said...will have to scout around the jewellery shops more I guess ... I don't know how you guys manage to spoil us girls how on earth do you always know what to get us? and we women don't have a clue its driving me bananas... as for something personal don't have a clue... maybe pawn shops maybe a good idea for originality as you know what others liked and they'll be different from those you find in everyday shops right? anyway thanks again hope you get spoilt too love opti happy xmas

at least you are getting what you want

its one thing to receive something... but receiving what you want is much better... having said that I've opened one of my xmas presents already from my grandma and i adore it i didn't tell her that i wanted it but she has definitely listened to my stories of travel smiley - biggrin

Hi, Opti strong hands,

Glad you got your Xmas presents sorted. It's a nightmare isn't it? I have two people in particular who have everything (well, everything I could afford!) but I managed. As a family we discuss what we are going to buy each other. That way everyone gets what they really, really want.

Then we buy a small "surprise" present as well. It works quite well. We can't afford to waste money on things ppl don't want.

I love Pam Ayres toosmiley - smiley. What did you get her?

smiley - cheers

I think you may have misunderstood I am not related to Pam Ayres but my mum loves her poetry and so i got my mum a poetry book with Pam's Poems in it.

I think talking about what people are getting each other spoils the surprise but at least then you know that you are getting what you want... just re-read your message with the surprise bit and think thats a good idea

Opti, Didn't think you were related to Pam Ayres. Glad you got one of her books for your Mum. I have two of them, and have a good giggle. smiley - rofl

The surprise presents worked out really well, and we were all very happy. We gave up pretending we were pleased about presents we didn't want years ago and this works much better.Less stressful too!

smiley - sorry was unsure.... when writing is the only form of communication it's hard to know whether someone understands or not. I'm pleased you understood.

My mum had an old Pam Ayres book which is so old that her children (me included) wrote all over them when we were young. However, I spotted a book which holds her favourites in it as well as plenty of new ones. So now she's going to copy the rest of the old book into the new and its sat by her bed so i'm guessing she's proud of it. she was even reading some to me when she got it. She clais though Pam Ayres is better at reading the poems than her so I may just get her a cd pr tape on her for her birthday too. Although maybe too much of a good thing is not a good idea.
