What things are there to do in Scotland? and where would you reccommend staying?

For a while now I have been interested in going to see the other side of GB that being Scotland and have itchy feet for travelling, recent events being London, Nottingham, Poole and Salisbury ... all this travelling will lead me to travelling Europe and I'd like to find out what people think i should see, do, way to travel etc Europe as well as Scotland so come on my fellow friendly h2g2ers please help me out here by making my wish come true.

Hello

I haven't actually stayed much in Scotland, but I have been to Edinburgh and I can really recommend it as there are quite a few things to see. Also it is good to note that the train station is right in the centre of the city and only a short walk from most of the central attractions, so to visit you only really need to be staying somewhere within a reasonable train journey of Edinburgh.

Well the camera obscura is quite good to see. Its this 19th century toy, effectively, that can project images from anywhere in Edinburgh onto a table. (Its quite a good way to see everywhere quicklysmiley - smiley)

Edinburgh castle is also quite good as it has great views, lots of history, and the Scotish crown jewels.

I suppose I'm a bit too fascinated by ancient monuments, views, and history.smiley - smiley

You might be best off going to the ask H2G2 section if you want more responses. And I'd be surprised if there wasn't someone on that thread who could tell you about those festivals your interested in.

Hmm, my post didn't post . smiley - weird Musdt have pressed the wrong button again smiley - doh

Anyway, I was going to say that the only time I went to Edinburgh was on the way back from Skye for an icecream. smiley - biggrin It was probably one of the longest diversions for an icecream in history, but I digress smiley - laugh

Edinburgh's a lovely place; sea and mountains smiley - wow. Though because I was only there for about an hour (I take a long time to eat ice creams smiley - winkeye) I can't say much about it. The castle certainly looks impressive from the outside though, fascinating. smiley - biggrin

I've been to Scotland on other occasions, but for the mountains more than anything else. smiley - smiley There are certainly plenty of them there smiley - bigeyes

So, smiley - sorry I can't be of much help, but you're in for some stunning sites. smiley - biggrin

Odd smiley - weird. Ours is on the website, took me ages to find, as first I had to try and work out what school I'm in. As my school no longer exists, that was quite hard. I eventually found out that we're in the school of Biosciences for the moment. smiley - erm

Yes, it's the next weekend away. smiley - biggrin
