We're usually pretty quick when it comes to negative criticism, although we all know that it is constructive and positive criticism which motivates.

I couldn't really find a good place to post this on the Create page, so I'll do it here instead.

I think it is great! I do not know Blue peter (ie I've never watched it), but I don't feel for a minute being treated like a child by the way and tone Create is being presented.

It is novel, it is imaginative, and if a prize is offered (something that completely escaped me), fine. The eds offered T-shirts for their Challenges. I know it, because I got one.

I cannot for the life of me see the difference, and why this would be seen as a change in culture. And anyway, it is entirely possible that culture could be changed for better.

The fact that I haven't taken part in only one of the challenges so far is the small print. I could write a journal about my Christmas, but I couldn't write four of them, and I've never spent a Christmas that wasn't traditional. I'd love to, but I've never been out of the country during Christmas, and I've never been on my own, so had no choice than spend Christmas the traditional way. If you have, have a look here:

Thank you Bel. There has been a lot of work put into developing the way we try to attract new writers, and to support them in various ways.

Thanks for your vote of confidence. Solnushka has worked really hard to inspire and support new writers and I think it is one of the best things to come out of us taking h2g2 into the future.

I love it. I check the Front Page to see what's new in Create. I forget to check QotD over it. smiley - biggrin

Its good to hear some people who like create, I personally found that damn journal competition to irritating, but support the general concept.
But QOTD is first thing that i check

I couldn't keep up with all the journals, but that was actually great, as it meant that it was a huge success. smiley - smiley

If it hadn't been for Geggs and Ictoan I wouldn't have known that I had two QotD (which I really should add to my PS). smiley - laugh

Well I liked NaJoPoMo but did find it difficult to keep track of other conversations - but that could have been because I was busy.

I even entered the story competition - and have since re-read the instructions and find that my story it totally the wrong thing because it isn't related to the winter solstice.smiley - rofl Anyway, it might encourage someone to write about the right thing.smiley - rolleyes

I also submitted a pome to the AWW - that one I knew didn't fit the brief but you know what I'm like.smiley - whistle

So, all things considered I'm coming down firmly in favour of the Create initiative. It pushes us all in the right direction and encourages activity and inclusion.

Create has the potential to become something pretty damn great. To shift the focus of the site from navel gazing back to writing, for example. smiley - smiley

Ah, Fizzy, maybe I should just write something remotely related then? I'll have to think about it. after all, the aim is to get people writing in the first place. But then I usually do as told. ask Dmitri. smiley - winkeye

KB, you are right.

Amen and smiley - applause for the good work in Create. smiley - biggrin

More writing, that's the ticket.

As an old challenge survivor, I should have warned Solnushka about the creative way in which challenges would be interpreted...smiley - run

Indeed. Like imagine a challenge that said "Do whatever you want, but you are limited to using only three things: Protons, neutrons and electrons."

smiley - bigeyes How many ways could you work creatively within that impossibly tight restriction?

I haven't written anything in line with Create either, butthat partly because it is so short, and partly because I haven't found the inspiration yet, but that's my problem. and not Create's.

But I do I see that there is a large number of Christmas recipe entries in PR at the moment, and so others are clearly being inspired. Create is working.

Well done Sol!smiley - applause

Can we always come up with multiple challenges? Like we have for December,?

If there are enough volunteers with lots of ideas, I can't see why not. smiley - smiley

Geggs, give it a go. I did one of the challenges, and it was fun. smiley - smiley

See thus far there has been nothing that has really grabbed me, and I'm not a creative person idea generator (a ceepig)

Though i shouldnt encourage distractions of myself, if I'm planning to do half of my project over christmas

But that's the strength of it. You can follow it to the letter, or just use it as the seed of an idea (which subverts the original suggestion completely if you like), or you can ignore it completely and press ahead with your own things you're working on.

I have to say I'm getting seriously fed up being told one can't either understand or do "ART" unless one has an art degree or is an artist. I wouldn't mind but the person concerned seems to think its fine to criticise everyone else, and in a nasty, vindictive way at times, only then not able to take any criticism back without screaming and crying about victimisation and a "woe is me, no-one understands the Artist" cr*p. smiley - steam
Create is a brilliant idea, it expands on what used to be the Editors challenge. I've taken part in 2 of them so far, may do more as and when.
As for degrees, well, I got 18 of 'em here, at least thats what me room thermometer says anyway. smiley - whistlesmiley - spacesmiley - run

smiley - laugh Art is welcome at smiley - thepost. So is 'art', and '*rt', and 'Kunst', and whatever...

I've had courses at an Art Institute, I'll have you know. smiley - whistle

Of course, they were *photography* courses...smiley - run

I like the Create thingie. Setting yourself constraints is also a way to produce interesting works.

Exhibit A being the Oulipo, see A538021 for an Entry on one of its instigators.
