aka Bel - A87832164

The phone rang in the early afternoon today. It was my mother in law.
At first, I was glad, because I had tried to reach her all day to make an appointment for us going to see her. She isn't at home very often, so I wasn't worried. But then she told me that she was in hospital - again.

She's only been in hospital in April and May, where she had an OP. She got a shunt (gosh, I thought it was spelled Schand, which is how it is pronounced here, so I searched for a translation for Schand) in her head, so that her brain liquid can flow freely. Before, she had been very forgetful which had gradually got worse up to the point where strangers picked her up in the street and brought her home (they had searched her handbag for an address) because she didn't know who she was, where she was, and where she lived.
But I digress. All was really well since the OP, and now this!

She's been dizzy for days now, and today she called her gp to ask if he would see her. They told her to come immediately. So, her pulse was 160, and her gp transferred her to the hospital. Which was from where she called. She asked me if I could bring her some necessary things (toothbrush, nightie, etc).

So I went to her flat (thank goodness we have a key) to collect a few things for her. My husband came to the hospital directly from work.

She is being monitored and has got an injection to slow down her pulse. Apparently, there is a risk that she'll suffer from a stroke.

She had ventricular fibrillation, too. They wanted to make an MR, but didn't dare because of the 'computer' in her head.

They reached the professor who had inserted the PC, and she is fine to have an MR. That is going to be made on Monday.

My dad isn't too well, either, so he went to some specialists hoping they'll find out what's wrong with him. I meant to call my mother today, but haven't made it yet.

Tomorrow, my sister and family will come for a stop-over on their way to Canada.

I'm really glad I've at least prepared the next smiley - thepost, because I'm not sure I'll have the head for it this weekend.

My living room is still quite a mess, though. Oh well, something's got to give. smiley - biggrin

Don't worry about the living room, that's the least of your worries. Things always come together don't they, as if one thing wasn't enough to cope with. I hope the news on your Dad is good when you finally hear, your mother in law too.

Thinking of you,

Thanks, Websailor. smiley - hug
From what I understood, they took blood samples on Monday (my dad), so not sure there are any results yet. And he was to be checked thoroughly yesterday, but I guess they'll just send off those results to his gp.

I just called my mum for news about my dad. They have found and removed some polyps from his bowel, and sent some of the tissue in for analysing because they weren't entirely sure about its nature. He'll have to stay for a bit longer than planned, because they'll check his stomach on Tuesday next week. My dad has quite a long history of stomach problems - a removed gallbladder when he was young, helicobacter was found later (my sister had it, too. Apparently it is hereditary). We'll have to wait for the results, but so far, there doesn't seem to be anything really worrying. He is bored, so that means he must be well. smiley - biggrin

I'll try to be optimistic that the result will be that there's nothing to worry about, or which would require further treatment. smiley - smiley

Bel, whatever the result it is better to know and for anything to be treated, than for something to go undiagnosed. That's from experience.

I'm glad my dad finally went for a thorough check-up. He had polyps removed once and should have had it checked regularly. I don't think he did that.
