In case anybody missed me...

...

It's not smiley - thepost work keeping me from replying to conversations.

It's the fact that I can't load any BBC sites from about 8am to 9pm (my time).

That means, the only times I have a reasonably fast access to hootoo is when I am tired.

I can't participate in conversations because it can take me up to ten!!! minutes to load a page.

If I'm very lucky, Opera can establish a 'Turbo' connection, which means I am lucky and pages load within a reasonable time span.

However, without Turbo available, it's not worth even trying to sign in, let alone post.

I can't find out why that is, and it is *only* BBC sites - no other websites are concerned. Everything else loads quickly.

I have to admit that it is incredibly frustrating, up to the point where I don't even try to access hootoo but spend my time on websites I can access.

So if you don't see me, it's because of this:

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and all the best for the new year. If I don't reply, I'm not being rude, I'm just gone mad.

So do I, Pingu, but I'm not optimistic. The eds can't find out what it is, so it looks as if it's not on the BBC end. However, as all other websites load without problems, I can't imagine it's my connection. smiley - erm

Sorry to hear this, Bel.smiley - hug

My guess would be that there's *seomthing* in your settings that's reacting badly to only the BBC. Finding this may be a bear of a diagnostic problem, though.smiley - erm

Try a proxy server, just to make sure it's not whichever server you're connecting to?

As far as I know when Turbo is enabled, it is via a proxy server.

Oh, and I can't quite imagine what in my settings would slow down the BBC.

Actually, mobiles are called "handys" in Germany - and everyone thinks that's the English term. It's really quite ridiculous smiley - laugh

Thanks, lifestooshort. smiley - smiley

I think they're called cell phones in the USA. Another word for 'Handy' here is 'Mobiltelefon' - so the UK variant, rather than the US one.

hi b,elana
-
this might help in a way,
-
when i go to the cybercafe, i find if i want to acsess h2g2, i now have to do a disc cleanup.
-
and regain temp files, and it seems to help me acsess a bit better.
-
if you dont know the way to use the cleaner. follow this
-
start bottom left, then, programmes, then to acesories, the internet tools, then you will reach disc cleanup.
-
click and ok the c/ box, wait for the detailed section, an tick any you want to remove back to the free space. then cilck ok, then doyou wnat to, ok again, and it should clear anything you needed to recover.
-
if i dont do this at the cyber, it takes ages to acsess the signin alone. smiley - dragon jimbob

smiley - cheers jimcracker. I've done that only the other day, and my PC crashed a couple of days later, giving me some weird error message. Then my husband told me to never ever do a disc clean-up again. smiley - erm

I *always* clear the cache when I close a browser, though.

Jimcracker7[magiclink.rip gone altogether. im back.in my home from home.

have you checked the adaware, spybot search and distroy is what the cyber uses.
-
it will check for anything hidden in the system, depending on what you have on the pc, it will take approx 40 mins to check the amount of things it looks for.
-
you will find it through google, the free personal addition.
-
also there is the updated avg, that check the whole system, again free from a google search, should be again personal addition. shopping, casinos, double clicks tend to hide in the system and slow you down smiley - dragon jimbob

there is always the option to take the pc back a few days or weeks, this is drastic, but sometimes is the only way.
-
you would need to take anything from docs and pics first.smiley - dragon jimbob

I have no advice because the last time things went belly-up for me PC-wise, I bought a new PC. One of the benefits of being single I guess, (can spend my money on what *I* want), although I know I complain about it most of the time.

See you in 2010

I don't think it's my PC - I used the netbook on Sunday and it wasn't any better - and the netbook (my husband's ) is new.

Anyway, I don't think we'll find out what causes it. I only wanted to tell you all that I'm not ignoring you.

Have a great Christmas, GB. smiley - smoochsmiley - hug

I'm wondering if it's anything to do with the weather affecting the internet over here. If it's ruined something then it may look fine to both you and the eds. Unfortunately the only way to find out is to wait.
