Oh, update: my aunt is back from hospital. Apparently it was her tablets which caused the lack of red blood cells they found.

M-i-l has been operated and is considerably fine. Will probably have to have another OP at some later point.

When my youngest sister was two or three - before she could read - she once cracked open her fortune cookie and declared in solemn tones that it told her to "Be careful in plastic boats". Sounds like sage advice to me!
