Tinned Labskaus!!

Post 1

aka Bel - A87832164

My parents called this afternoon, and I told my mum which food and beverages to avoid because of the bouts of gout she has. She told me she didn't have red meat often.

I asked what will be for tea today, and she said they're going to have lobscouse. I wondered whether they cooked it themselves, and then my dad said he bought it in a tin. smiley - doh

I googled a bit, and here are the results I got:

This one came up, too. I can only guess that the man just enjoyed a lobscouse meal and now wants some decaff smiley - coffee

My dad offered to bring a few tins, but I don't eat beef, so I declined.
I'm sure I could buy it somewhere and send to any interested parties in the UK, though.

smiley - rofl Hilarious. I like the tin that says it's made from Highland Cattle. smiley - yikes

We make our hashes a bit simpler...just corned beef, potatoes, onions.

At east they're honest in declaring where the beef comes from. I dound a site from 12 years ago. There was quite a scandal about tinned lobscouse, because it was made from illegally imported beef from Great Britain, butr didn't say so on the tin. smiley - yikes

Lobscouse in a tin is genius! smiley - biggrin Mind you, I think that all tinned-foods are brilliant. I don't think that because tinned-food neccesarily tastes good but it makes me think of arctic explorers and adventurers. *And* tinned-food can remain edible for decades, as long as the tin remains intact (though it is possible that some tins aren't opened because no-one wants to eat what's inside smiley - winkeye). I also find it amusing that tin-openers weren't invented until several decades after tinned-food was invented. Anyway, my life would definitely be poorer if it had never contained condensed soup in a tin. smiley - ok

I won't be any help with the knitting but I'm pretty nifty with cross-stitch if that's any use. smiley - smiley

Hope you're well Bel smiley - kiss

We don't often eat tinned food, but I usually have a couple of them - just in case I run out of things to cook or have no idea/not in the mood/no time to cook something from scratch.
I'm not too sure about tinned lobscouse, though. smiley - laugh

I'm well, slowly settling back to normal.

Glad to hear you're recovering.

This lobscous really sounds awful! Well, to each their own,
I ran into a "mystery meat" on the menu of a rural diner the other day. To your salad, you could add "Medlin Meat"!
A ?? to the waitress revealed this is a salt pork. Not the same a Country Ham, but similar, I suppose.
None of us ordered this, by the way.
