Lovely page Spanner Girl. You must pop over and check mine out.
I promise not to promote the National Party and ACT in opposition to your left wing musings. Probably.

Thanks I have checked out your page on a couple of occasions - cool dancing pictures! As for the left wing stuff, I can't lie and pretend i'm neutral or don't give a damn about politics, that wouldn't be me, that'd be soemone else altogether.

I was Napier's national councillor to the NZ Printing Union from the mid 70s to the mid 80s.
So much of what we achieved has been wrecked by the Employment Contracts Act

You certainly have rennovated since I was here last. It's great although I wouldn't be surprised if the leering ladies who are guarding your doorstep don't frighten off the less courageous visitors. I swear I just saw Jenny wink at me as if to say "This whole country's going to be having bad dreams about me by November". I think I'm giving the Greens my party vote and Labour my electorate. Sorry about the leftness but it's hard to credit National's current policies or leaders with anything except trying as hard as they can to undo everything labour did before them and come November it will be the opposite. But oh well, we worker ants go on working regardless of who is pulling our poor little helpless strings. smirk.

Gosh local body politics huh?! that's impressive, I've always thought that must be the one form of politics worse than student politics. At least with student politics you are still idealistic and naive. With local body politics it seems very petty with little reward, although having written that it sounds a lot like student politics too. Sorry i'm not making much sense this bleak auckland afternoon.

I get your point about helen and jenny being rather off-putting - i'll probably move it later this week sometime, but then most of the people on h2g2 are from outside nz so they won't know who they are anyway - although of course the whole world apparently now knows who jenny is because of her "international profile and respect". and hey don't apologise for being leftwing - otherwise i'd have to spend my whole life apologising. Personally i'll probably be voting alliance with two big ticks, but i'm just an idealist at heart

Local body politics????
Since when was the national union movement regionalised? The Printers Union was a proud and successful national union for over 100 years.
I was the Napier printers delegate at national conferences
The printers are now part of the Engineers Union

not quite yet - we have a computer, its in the room it'll be set up in, in fact the monitor is out of its box, but that's it, becuase my esteemed male caregiver needs someone to tell him how to plug it in to the wall, and apparently i'm not qualified enough. i've managed to avoid bludgeoning said male caregiver with said monitor. but only just. hopefully set up by the weekend

Laughs.
When I bought mine I paid cash and part of the deal was the salesperson had to deliver and install the computer, connect me to the Internet and connect the printer etc.
I even bludged a ride home in the delivery van.

thanks for the link - i just hope Harbour manages to save some face this season and beat Taranaki this weekend. Why is it that as soon as I lose my Harbour scarf, which I have loyally worn for at least the last six years, we start winning? maybe frano botica stole my scarf because it is a bad luck charm. hmmmm

oh mi god - now we know what happened to my scarf! and harbour won yesterday too - i sense a conspiracy in the air. i suppose i'll have to buy a new scarf now never mind it was pretty ugly really, but i felt this odd sense of identity whenever i wore it. sigh
