A Conversation for Cures for Apathy

I offer myself incentives, particularly in terms of study (I study part-time on top of full-time work). For example, I'll buy some treat (a sticky bun, for example), but not allow myself to have it until I've written a certain section of an assignment, or read a certain number of chapters. Or if I've taped something from the TV, then I can watch it as a reward for having worked through a set of questions.

I suppose you could do the same at work - get to the bottom of the pile of paperwork and you can have a doughnut with your coffee. Whatever incentive works for you.

You could even team up with others at home or work - get your husband to agree to cook dinner (assuming that won't result in food poisoning) if you reach a certain target, or whatever.

Aye, but apathy saps willpower. If your work doesn't seem important enough to bother with, then having the doughnut now isn't going to be any more damaging than being fired...
