With the release of the new movie, I believe that South Park will regain the impetus it once had.
This show has a far greater cult following than most and there are too many die hard Southpark fans out there for the show to disappear into the abyss that is TV entertainment.

In saying all that, however, the usual trend that happens when a new show comes out will gradually diminish. By this I mean that those viewers who jump on the bandwagon of a show because everyone is talking about it, rather than because they actually like it. This will surely die out as one cannot sustain such falseness for too long. This will leave the true lovers of the show to continue along on their merry way while the others search the TV airwaves for the next bandwagon to jump on.

It is ironic that not many years ago, The Simpsons was thought to be just as destructive as South Park is thought of today. Amazing thing, progress!

In fact, in some ways the phenomenon will continue simply because of the reaction to the movie... what better way to get new viewers interested than having critics mentioning how offensive the movie is and how it'll corrupt the youth, etc, etc... when was the last time that that actually *discouraged* people from seeing the movie. Quite frankly, if you *can't* be offended, it's very funny - especially if you get the parodies that half the audience probably misses.

South Park sucks. Screw you guys - I'm going home.

Obviously, I don't know where the rest of you come from (the net being international and all that) but I stay in Scotland and I just want to put in my bit. South Park was released first on VHS and I totally ignored it. By the time I had discovered the show, it had been released on DVD. Now the videos sell for around thirteen quid with only two episodes on them but the DVD's have four episodes on them and are only twenty quid thus the enitre series saved me eighteen pounds. I was totally happy until I wanted to buy series two only to find that it has not yet been released on DVD and I want it I have to fork out for crappy old VHS. They can got and kiss my ass!!!!

DVD? Someone has actually got a DVD player? Wow!

The reason for the waning popularity of South Park is not that it is getting more stupid, it's just the opposite, it's getting smarter. The newer episodes have more inside jokes that refrence more obscure subjects, a lot of which are before the main original fanbase's time. Now, I'll admit that some episodes have been sub-par, but what show hasn't had some?

And, if you want to talk about the movie, it was one of the best movies to come out in 1999. And most of the major film critics agreed with me. The movie does have a lot of bad jokes and crude humor, but that is what it was all about. That the MPAA has all these issues with language while movies with lots of violence get approved all the time.

When South Park first came out, it was an underground adult comedy. But then the kids started finding it, and then it started to become a kids thing instead of an adult things. And once these kids started jumping on the bandwagon and using South Park as a tool to be 'cool', I started getting thouroghly sick of it.

I think the impetus dying down is a good thing, as it will let the real fans get on with enjoying the show without having to listen to kids doing Cartman impressions.

Sadly, I haven't seen any recent episodes. And I think the videos are a rip-off.

The new season absolutely rules! It hasn't been this good in a while. Whenever you have the chance to see the new episodes, don't miss them.

And what's wrong w/talking like Cartman? I talk like him all the time. But, I don't do it conciously, I just say 'cool' and 'sweet' and some other things like him.

Which season is this now? #3? I should get my sister to record them...

Talking like Cartman...it's kids just doing it all the time. I've stopped now because I think I was sick of hearing -myself- say it, as well as everyone else *^_^*.
It's worse when you force it, yes. There are times when it's perfectly innocent and fine to do it, but people are so used to hearing it they'll probably give you a "South Park ain't cool!" outburst.

I don't think you sound like a facist. All sorts of innocent character traits bug me. Everyone's like that, it can't be helped.

What bugs me is when people try to talk like Cartman (or anyone else on the show for that matter) and do it badly. I just do it naturally, I picked it up from watching the show so much. It also bothers me when people quote movies and shows (Trey Parker movies in particular) and say the wrong things. It really makes me mad actually, and I feel bad about that.

All I know is that they have one year left on their contract, and I don't think they'll renew or continue. The interview I just read says they want to move on... bummer.

Some people have natural voices for Cartman, like my friend Ed Hunter.
Who does the voices for the kids in the series then?

Trey does Stan and Cartman and Matt does Kyle and Kenny.

I was talking like Cartman today, and my friend said it was spooky b/c I sounded just like him. Her boyfriend did too.

I got a friend who's gotthe South Park movie on DVD. He says that it looks nowt like South Park because of the way DVD tarts up the picture quality (hyperbole).
