h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Field Researchers Limited got its first piece of mail today.

I got home, and there it was waiting for me on the door mat. A white business envelope with “Field Researchers Limited” written about the address.

It really is official. Proper post and everything. And that’s when it hits you, when it really brings it home. That what you’ve been pushing for for getting on for two years now is actually here. We’re a proper company, registered with Companies House and running a business.

Okay, it’s a bit of a strange business, we’re a one third share holder in the company running the Earth Edition of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. And that took repeating a few times when I was on the phone to the bank looking into business banking accounts, I’m not sure they took it seriously to start with. But we are serious. We are a proper company, running a proper business, looking out for and representing the interests of our members.

We’ve started out I suppose, with great intentions, but we didn’t really know what we were doing all the time. Thankfully though, in our ranks were those that did. We had the experts at hand for pretty much everything we needed, all members of h2g2. And where we didn’t have the expertise in our ranks, we either found it, or learned very fast.

And here we are. We’re officially incorporated, and we’re getting official post.

We’ve all learned a lot over the last year or so, and we’ve all started becoming a lot more professional as we’ve learned. We really are ready now to run this company.

And all this was brought to mind as I opened our first piece of official post.




Shame it was junk mail from Google really.

I would have been really really really really very disapointed, had I got to the end of reading the opening post here, to find out the first item of real snail mail post wasn't* advertising/spam

Not such a strange business. Owning and operating websites is big business. The really cool part is that in this case of our site, one of the owners is us.

Yeah, the business isn't strange. But it *is* the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and *that's* strange

Just the Earth Edition, mind.

Is there a planned date yet for the release of the Mars or Neptune editions then?

We've got a scout out on Mars at the moment looking for a headquarters out there, but we're keeping it a bit hush hush at the moment and using the cover of a another company.

I seem to recall BT, or was it Virgin saying they were going to roll out Broadband as far as Mars in the next year or two... or was that March, near Ely... same differnce really....
