h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

It's kinda weird seeing the Guide in Barlesque again.

I know I'd got used to it once, even quite liked it. But I do love Goo.

But going through Barlesque getting the pages up and running and putting tweaks in does actually remind me that it's rather nicely designed.

Now just to make it also rather nicely built...

Good luck with that. I must say I did like the aesthetics of it myself, but without some of the tools I rely on in brunel, I just won't use it.

I have no idea what Barlesque looks like. But I know what Brunel looks like. The view is much nicer from Goo.

I prefer the look of goo as well, but brunel is the most functional.

The plan is, once we've got Barlesque running, to start looking at getting all skins onto the same framework with the same functionality.

Awesome. Don't rush it. Do it right.

What does Brunel have that Goo doesn't? *ooh-er* I honestly don't think I could use h2g2 in Brunel.

What brunel has is good contrast for those of us who find it helps with the visual problems.

It's Barlesque removed from Forge and put into a vanilla Zend installation.


Forge is the BBCs version of the Zend Framework. They've taken out all the stuff that isn't needed, and rewrote parts to optomise it for their needs.

We have different needs. So we're putting it into a vanilla (clean) Zend Framework installation and removing the restrictions that were enforced on it through Forge.

Is there an address structure that we could peek at, that presumeably doesn't include the /dna/ bit?

The dev server is my home machine, and only a few people have access to it.

That's cool, I found that flavour somewhat hard on the eyes anyway.

The url structure will initially be the same, but with h2g2.com replacing the bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2 we think.
