Well, it's the middle of the night here, so I thought, why not work on that h2g2 page that's been neglected for so long. I'm not sure what's wrong with the main entry or whatever it's called, but hopefully a kind soul (or a neurotic pedant) will come along and help me out. Meanwhile, I thought I'd write my first journal entry. You know, being up alone in the middle of the night really makes you think. Well, it makes me think, anyhow. I'm 17 years old. In 4 months I'll be 18, a legal adult. Well, except for the alcohol. (Doesn't that suck?) But anyways, I'm at a cross-road in my life. Up until now, my life's been pretty much layed out for me. But soon, I'm going to be free to make my own desicions. But with freedom comes responsibility. What do I want to do with my life? What CAN I do with my life? Well, I'm going to go to college, that much is decided, but I'm not even sure where. I might go to DePaul. It will be exiting to live in Chicago for a while, away from the bordem that is Youngstown. But then what? My real dream is to be a writer. but I honestly don't think I have what it takes. I'm creative enough, but I always get stuck in the middle of a story. My current plan is to become a historian. History is of great interest to me. But I'm just not completely sure. I like to write funny songs. Lots of people tell me I should make a CD, but, well, like I said I don't know. I've been looking forward to adulthood my whole life, but now that it's so close, I'm bewildered. I believe in God. I don't know whether he intervenes in any way, but I'm going to ask him for guidance, just in case. After all, HE knows the Question to the Answer!

It wasn't to lond ago that I found myself in your place. Relax. You're young. If you want to be a writer, try it. What have you got to lose. At the very worse, all you'll get is a few rejection slips.
You don't need guidance, you need realization. I know a man in his 80's who just received his doctrate. That was his goal. It took him his whole life to acheive it. (This is where I'm supposed to say "He never gave up." He didn't take it very seriously. He played. It was fun to him. Life isn't something you plan. It just happens.

Is DePaul the Chicago theatre school? Or have I got the name wrong again?

It's not just a theatre school. It's a prestigous Liberal Arts College. But anyways, I've decided not to go there. Since I need a doctors degree to be a historian, DePaul is way too expensive for me. I'm going to go to Kent State, where my sister went. It's nice, and less than half the tuition!

I s'pose they've had to lower the price 'cause of their history.
Anyway I thought about going to a liberal arts college but I think I won't. I'm not sure why exactly, but I think... I don't know what I think. I don't want to pick a college. I just want a tutor or something.

History? Y'mean the Vietnam thing? Nah, that doesn't affect their reputation. And let me clarify myself. $5,000 a year isn't exactly cheap, but it's a Hell of a lot better than $1500 and it's a good school. My sister went there. And although it's a big campus, they have an excellent bus system. Also, Kent was rated to have the 2nd best tap water in the country, so that means I don't have to waste money on bottled water. Oh, and did I mention Red Dwarf will come in clearer there?

I didn't mean to argue with your choice of schools. Though... erm, I do suggest a... that is, they offer math there, don't they?

Don't mention the "M" word! I hate math! But yes, of course they offer it there. What are trying to say?

Oh, wait, I see. Now I feel silly. I forgot a zero when I wrote Depaul's tuition.

Hey Mike, you're 18 now - time you put in a new Journal entry don't you think? What's changed in your life's journey? Where's your head at? (ooh - that sentence is a pedant's nightmare!) How was series eight?
The world wants to know.

Let me guess, a lack of journal entries on my h2g2 page killed your brother? Yeah, I guess you're right; I just never get around to it. Maybe today. (But don't count on it.) Meanwhile, take a look at my Youngstown article, if you can read it. (I haven't quite gotten the hang of how to do spaces here.) I've added a whole bunch to it, about all the things to do here. There's more here than I thought. I mean, I knew about it all, but when I stopped to write about it, I realized that Youngstown isn't quite as bleak and dreary as I thought. I'm still not staying though. It's just not for me.
