Here in Australia, we had a show called Good News Week that was based off the HIGNFY format - game show with comedians and other public figures working out news articles based on various clues. It was incredibly popular in its 1/2-hour format on ABC (our government-owned channel, much like the BBC).
They then introduced an hour-long variety/entertainment-themed version on Saturday nights, which also went reasonably well but disappeared after a season or two.
ABC then sold the rights to Channel 10, they made the 1/2-hour show an hour long (but with commercials), and they re-introduced the longer-style one, 1 1/2-hours long on Thursday nights. This proved to be too much of a strain on both the audience and the participants, and it finally wound down a couple of years ago.

In any case, small doses of a good thing don't get tired as quickly as big doses of it.
