Entry: Chapstick - A94141
Author: Fish - U45306
This isn't my entry but I did find it to be rather informative and worth reading. Adding a link from the Pixie Stick reference to an entry on Pixie sticks might be fun as well.

Have you asked Fish if they'd mind you submitting their entry to the Collaborative Writing Workshop?
Do you know how the CWW works?

Terribly sorry...no I did not. I had assumed that if the link was available to me then there must be a reason. Sorry if my actions upset the natural balace of things. I will humbly back into my corner of h2g2 and read through the guides sections on review policies. Again...terribly sorry...

You've only been here a short while so you can be forgiven for not knowing the way things are, but in that knowledge it's always best to watch and learn
The CWW is for authors to submit their own entry if they want it to be a collaborative entry. The only person who can edit an entry is the author, and since Fish hasn't posted since 1999 it's unlikely that they'll be coming back to work on this one.
However, if you like the look of this entry, and if there isn't already an edited entry about Chapsticks, and if you want to write one yourself using this as a basis for that entry, there is a process for that.
Interested?

oh very much so! I really like this site and the principal behind it. I want chapstick to go from Harmless to Mostly Harmless or in this case perhaps Chapstick to Mostly Chapstick.
And thanks for being understanding... Newbies are Researchers to ya know...hehe...

We were all newbies at one time or another
Here's how it works. You've got two options:
1. Using Fish's entry as a basis for a yours.
Firstly, check that there isn't already an edited entry (do you know about the difference between the Guide and the Edited Guide?) about Chapsticks. I've done that for you and there isn't, but you should always use <./>Search</.> before writing an entry for the Edited Guide because there can only be one edited entry about a subject. Then go to Fish's Personal Space and leave a message there letting them know that you've seen their entry, that you like it, and since it seems apparent that they've left h2g2 since they haven't posted for five or six years, you'd like to use their entry as a basis for one which you will expand upon. Wait a month on the merest offchance that Fish does come back, then leave another message saying that you're going to go ahead and write the entry.
2. Write a brand new entry of your own
After having checked that there already isn't one in the Edited Guide, simply create a new entry (the button to do so should be on your Personal Space) and write your piece.
There is a little more to it than that in both cases, but let's take one step at a time Grasshopper Which one of those sounds like the route you'd like to go?
Either way, you'll probably have to change the name of the entry to something like 'Lip Balm' since Chapstick is a brand name, and this is the BBC you know

Well, as far as I know now... Entries in the Guide can be about anything. Entries in the Edited Guide must be about reality (or at least about reality to the extent that human minds are capable of understanding). If there is more to the description than that then please tell me more...
As far as searching...I would imagine you just use the search feature on each page of the guide to try and find what you want. For instance, in this case I was using some chapstick and thought I would see if there was an entry for it. There was and I liked it but noticed it hadn't been submitted for review...which is where we stepped in.
As for what I would like to do from here. I would very much like to go the route of letting Fish know that I am interested in submitting his entry (which I will be doing after I send this note off) and then following up roughly a month later. Although, since I have inadvertently already submitted the Chapstick entry for review maybe I should wait on future actions until you get back to me.
And as a final note...ok...guess I don't really have a final note so...
Looking forward to learn. Teach me master...

Master
I like you a lot - you'll go far
You've discovered the Search link on every page - good start.
If you haven't already done so, go to my Personal Space and read the section about The Edited Guide, particularly the links I've provided to things like Peer Review, Writing for the Edited Guide, the Writing Guidelines, and Hitchhiking your way Into The Edited Guide.
First question - do you know about Guide ML?

hehe. Flattery may not get us anywhere in life but it does encourage the next lesson to come sooner rather than later.
Anyway, I will be checking your links shortly but in the mean time...yes, I know OF Guide ML and I would imagine it is similar to other web message board internal html systems but I have not yet read up on the specific Guide ML commands. Thought I would just stick with plain text to start with...

A good idea. It's wise to play around with it a bit before trying it out on an entry you've already submitted to PR, and the Sub-editors prefer to deal with an entry that has *no* GML as opposed to an entry that has *bad* GML.
The <./>GuideML-Clinic</.> is the place to learn about it.

Thanks much. I have a lot to read...hehe. And so...to all those out there awaiting Chapstick to find it's way into the Edited Guide...I'll be back...

"awaiting Chapstick to find it's way into the Edited Guide"
Just make sure you know when to use an apostrophe and when not to

Very cool. Well, not to sound too cheesy (although the wiskers are nice in my opinion) but...
So long and thanks for all the help
