Sorry to post here now...no, I really am sorry...
I think it would be worth mentioning in the entry that the word "salary" actually comes from a Latin word (I believe it's "salarium") which means something along the lines of "salt money" as they were paid in salt, I think. (AFAIK the Latin word for "salt" is "sal".)

I thought sea salt was a 'special' type of salt. And therefore table salt doesn't have to be sea salt but can be from other sources.

This entry is full of spelling mistakes. I'm not going to the trouble of pointing them out as there are too many. Try cutting and pasting the entry into a word processor and running the spelling checker on it.

I know no one is going to believe me but...
I just read the whole thread. It was hilarious to sit here, 10 PM EST, 9-22-2003, and read about Tango saying he'd work on this entry "when he gets a chance". Because the initial excuse was "exams" - which ended, by my calculations 4 MONTHS AGO!!!!!
So, I'd like to recommend this entry for the flea market. From there I can pick it up, run it through the spell checker, add all the info from this thread, and get it back into PR.
Any seconds?

A couple of points, Dave:
1) Only scouts and italics have the authority to "move" and "second" entries for removal from Peer Review and to places like the Flea Market.
2) The Flea Market is *only* for entries for which the author is no longer around on h2g2, or for whose authors agree to the move. It's pretty clear that neither is the case here.
I understand your frustration that this entry has just sat around without obvious work for so long, but your suggestions are a little out of line.

hmmm. I thought I only made 1 suggestion.
How exactly is it out of line? I've had my articles recommended to be removed from PR. I think given the time lapse, it is perfectly reasonable to reconsider whether or not this should be removed from PR. Just b/c Tango said (a very long time ago) he didn't want it removed from PR, or that he was still working on it, doesn't mean that now (in late september, 2003), we can't re-assess where this article is at, and where it is going.

Well, let's see....
Your message was rudely worded. In my opinion, rudeness towards the authors is essentially always out of line in a PR thread, especially when you're the one starting it.
And, on top of that, you asked for seconders for a move to the Flea Market --
a) You're not a scout, and therefore not eligible to make such a move -- it takes a move from a scout, and second from a scout. You asking for seconders was out of line.
b) Even if the entry were to be moved, it would be moved back to the entry, not to the Flea Market, for the reasons I posted above. So asking for it to be moved to the Flea Market when the author was still around h2g2 was also out of line.
So yes, you were out of line.

And yes, you made 2 suggestions. 1) that the entry be moved to the Flea Market, and 2) that you be allowed to pick the entry up and take it over even though the author is still active on the site.
The second suggestion was even more out of line than the first.

well, it seems like I've treaded on a sensitive subject. It seems you're using my "out-of-lineness" to ignore the more important issue. namely, to quote my earlier post (#127, in case you missed it)
"Just b/c Tango said (a very long time ago) he didn't want it removed from PR, or that he was still working on it, doesn't mean that now (in late september, 2003), we can't re-assess where this article is at, and where it is going."
Why don't you (Mikey) sit down and read this thread all the way through? Then you'll see how ridiculous you sound. But I'm still out of line.

Dave -- I have read the entire thread. As have many of the other scouts. As has at least one of the italics. And the matter has been discussed elsewhere. It's really not your call.

I don't want to get involved, but most (not all though) of Dave's out-of-lineness was (apparently) due to error (not knowing that only Scouts could propose moves, etc.) rather than anything else. Okay. That doesn't change much. 'Nuff said.

Tango Posted Sep 24, 2003
I have removed this entry from PR. 4 months is a little long for it to sit here without me doing anything to it, i agree. I would like to keep the entry for a little longer, but if i still haven't done anything with it in another month you have my permission to take over.

Thanks Tango. If you really intend to continue with it, don't let me take it from you. If you want me to add stuff and edit, and have me as second author, even better.

We'll see. I'll do the simple bits over the weekend. Run it through a spell checker, etc. I'll then start reading through this thread making changes. Once i've had a chance to look over it and find out what need to be done, i will get back to you about it. (BTW, you would be 3rd author, this has already been in the FM once)

Sounds great. If you go through and make that first round of changes, you'll probably be EG ready!

You still working on this? Would you like any help to get it finished?
