For those of you who use the Mozilla Firebird browser, Sean (U7) has concocted a custom h2g2 search bar for it.

It's really cool, and if I get any time in the near future I'll add some tags to the XSLT so that it'll work as a sidebar as well.

can you first improve server reachability, because it is becoming nuance, anoyance and every other simular word?

I can not undertand that BBC is trow its good name away by lacking maintances of a popular site! the past few days I had more errors that ever. I nearly lost whole page.

btw. nice to see your name in M.J Simpsons' Douglas Adams biography. there is error in book "futher reading" the bbc cult website a dot should be slash.

sorting out xslt for a sidebar is completely incomparable to sorting a server on the fritz imo, or if its that more servers are required, even Jim can't conjure them out of air!

personally, i'd like a sidebar which works in opera too...smiley - winkeye

And you might be interested to know that the problems we had earlier today happen to coincide with the installation into our server racks of four new web servers.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

Installed it, love it smiley - biggrin

It's so damn useful that I'm tempted to start using Mozilla as my h2g2 browser instead of Opera... but Opera has so many good features which make it ideal for h2g2 - opening windows and tabs in the background, and being able to start up the browser with more than one page at a time (BBC news, my PS, my more postings page, and the Front Page) being just two of them.

in mozilla's search sidebar, you get an additional h2g2 item on the drop-down list of search engines. you install it by clicking the "install the h2g2 Mozilla Mycroft Plugin" link.

Let me know how you get on - I tried downloading Firebird for Windows. It comes a zip file, but when I opened it I couldn't get the .exe to run. I'm sure there's something very obvious that I must be missing smiley - erm

IMSoP - Safely transferred to the 5th (or 6th?) h2g2 login system

just on an uber-geeky note, I couldn't help noticing that the advantages Gosho actually listed for Opera *do* exist in Mozilla:
- you can get tabs to open in the background (don't know about whole new windows, I just use middle-click a lot, configured to put it in a new tab)
- you can set a group of tabs as your start 'page', so that they will all load on startup

I'm not saying there may not be genuine advantages to Opera, but as someone who uses Mozilla all the time, I thought I'd point out that those aren't some of them!
