I have been informed that this thread is inaccessible from a digibox.
The Beer Garden
SEF Posted Jun 16, 2003
The first thing which struck me was that it wasn't very long (or very old) to have gone wrong already.
The Beer Garden
SEF Posted Jun 16, 2003
The next thing which struck me was the extraordinarily high number of invisible spacer smileys used by Malo.
The Beer Garden
SEF Posted Jun 16, 2003
They are even in lines where they serve no purpose (no other smileys or text to be spaced out).
The Beer Garden
SEF Posted Jun 16, 2003
Excessive numbers of smileys (along with other graphics and memory intensive things) has previously been cited as a cause of digibox failure.
The Beer Garden
SEF Posted Jun 16, 2003
Instead it seems that it only _appeared_ not to have many smileys.
The Beer Garden
SEF Posted Jun 16, 2003
Whereas it actually had lots of copies of one particular (invisible) smiley.
The Beer Garden
SEF Posted Jun 16, 2003
If the digibox does not have any/much optimisation then downloading and "displaying" lots of copies of the same smiley may take just as much time and memory as lots of different ones would.
The Beer Garden
SEF Posted Jun 16, 2003
That might explain the inability to view this page of this thread.
The Beer Garden
SEF Posted Jun 16, 2003
Whereas a single element, even the space smiley itself, might be responsible for the malfunction that seems unlikely given the automated nature of page production and the general availability of all smileys and other graphics.
The Beer Garden
SEF Posted Jun 16, 2003
So in order to test my theory (and because it is a valid test in its own right) I am taking this thread to another page (by spreading out my argument to avoid accusations of spam).
