A Conversation for Keeping Corn Snakes as Pets

Venomous?

One thing the article doesn't cover is whether or not corn snakes are dangerous?
Please do tell?

My reference book on poisons (and poisonous critters) does not reference Corn Snakes. However, it's not necessarily an exhaustive text; I'd be happier giving you a citation that says Corn Snakes are not venemous, but I don't have anything that says so.

On the other hand, venomous snakes aren't necessarily dangerous to keep as pets -- as with large dogs, it's how you keep them that matters more than what you're keeping. Venomous snakes and rotweillers are simply less forgiving of poor pet keeping than are, say, hamsters.

Spend half an hour or so at http://www.geoffcooper.com (hard rock, fiction, dogs) and then another half an hour at http://www.tinajens.com (blues, fiction, guinea pigs). Check the message boards and meet these people.

Guaranteed to like them or your money back ~

Corn snakes are non-venomous. They're mimics of coral snakes (well, in their natural coloring anyway) which are very poisonous.

hi amy

smiley - sorry, that's milk snakes you're thinking of, with the lovely red, black and yellow banding.

corns in the wild tend to blend in with the local vegetation.

milk/coral/king snake

Matt

i think a king snake and coral snake are the same, but not sure.

i know king snakes are carnivous and the colours go the opposite way than on a milksnake (which is as harmless as a cornsnake) but no idea about a coral snake...

perhaps the US name for a King snake.

I have two baby male corns, one year old in october 2004.smiley - biggrin
