I need a new cello... where does anyone think i should look?

talk to your teacher, ask him/her to rrecommend a place. We went to a dealer (all string instruments) about 2-3 hours from where I live when I got my violin. They brought out the instruments they had in our price range (and also one $200 over, which is, naturally, the one we bought) and also bows. So I chose 4 of those that I liked the best and brought them home for my teacher to look at. They only had 2 bows for me to look at, so not much of a choice, but over the years I've been very pleased with the one I got. You can also do stuff by mail.
When I got bow #2 it was from a dealer in New York City who my teacher knows. He sent us two (again!) bows, and it took a lot of debate just between two, but we finally chose one. I had a lot more input on the bow the second time, the whole reason we got it was that my first bow is fairly stiff and I was having trouble learning spiccato and other nasty techniques. We actually paid less for the second bow, but it's undeniably better. Marco Raposo, from Brazil, so they get first choice of pernambuco and the skill of the local (brazilian) bowmakers have improved dramatically ever since they started making bows. So they're quite good, and also cheap. (relativly speaking. Any non-musician here would flip over the money we've spent on instruments, strings, and sheet music.)
Keep in mind that buying a cello is a slightly more space consuming process. As my aunt says, you run out of livingroom space fast.

lol... im looking to spend abut £4000 on a new one. I know they take up space, but i want my own b4 uni. Truble is, theres only really 3 descent shops in the UK and they're miles away. They cant post cellos north easily... *whimper*

Ive not cut... 43 weeks and one day. It'll get easier... im going to email you as soon as i get past this barrier of not being able to say what i want. Everythings fallen into a box in my head marked do not open ever and its really difficult to open. I have to face it but the box wont open so i dont know how to express me....
