A Conversation for English Pub Names
It's Ice Cream

In what parts of England are we seeing these "It's a Scream" pubs? There are at least two around Birmingham University (The Bristol Pear and the Gun Barrels) and I think I saw one up here near Durham.
You can't miss them as they're all black and vanilla coloured, and they all have the same pub sign, "The Scream" by [artist whose name I forget], recognisable to anyone who ever saw the opening credits to "Newman & Baddiel".

There's one in Cardiff, called The Woodville (or Woody to the locals) and I think another Cardiff pub in Roath has recently been Screamized, but I can't remember the name!
Like tribbles, aren't they?

The Woodville in cardiff (Affectionately known as the Woody) used to be an old-mans cosy type pub, but still very popular with the local students. It was gutted and painted bright yellow. But creation of the other Scream pub in Cardiff, (The George by the way) was a dispicable crime against humanity. It used to be called Clancy's, a genuine irish pub (no chain pub) run by friendly irish folk. It served what was recognised as the finest guinness in Cardiff, and was an old, simple cosy-but-large pub with an amazing atmosphere (especially during the Five (sorry, Six) Nations). They gutted it and painted it yellow.
There was an article in the Cardiff Student Union's paper Gair Rhydd from a former barman of The George. They were instructed by the new management to prioritise students and younger people over the old regulars of Clancys, so that these people who had their beloved pub turned into a neon circus would now not be served and treated like second-hand citizens.
I hated that place ever since.

There's loads of them in London - I think they were buying up the less profitable Firkin pubs or something.

Yes the george was an old mans/dealers pub whish was then taken over by students which is why it was changed to a scream pup - typical!!!

But there were a lot of students in Clancy's (before it was The George) anyway. Plus old men and dealers. A good mix I think you'd agree.

There are 2 that I know of in Reading. One used to be called The Jack of Both Sides, a former Courage establishment and the other is a bar in the town centre which was at one time a shop if my memory is correct.
