I called Andy back on Friday and left a huge long message telling him why I was upset and why I needed time and cried and cried. I told him I'd call him in a week. To his credit, when I got home from work there was a message on my machine saying, "Honey, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for.. for everything. I don't want to make you sad or upset you. Take all the time you need. I love you." That made things much easier.
I haven't called him, which is hard, but I don't feel like it's all over just because I need to take some time for myself.
We'll see how it goes.
HOWEVER, right now I'm completely in Red Dwarf Land and happy as a clam. Craig Charles is on TV tonight and that's exciting. I need to buy the rest of the show...all of them.. and I'm having a terrible time trying to figure out how to pay for all 8 seasons. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.... Smegging Hell. I'm fast becoming a Dwarfer.

*hug* It looks like you are doing what you need to do, which is good, and that he understands, which is also good. It'll work out for the best, I'm sure, whatever that turns out to be.
As for Red Dwarf, I have all of seasons 1-4 on video and would be happy to loan them to you if you like. That's 8 tapes, with 3 episodes on each. If you've already seen some of them, I'll leave those out. Heck, it'll be 8 less tapes I have to move next week. So let me know.

LOL!! Thanks! I just went out this lunch break and bought bytes 1 & 2 of the Second season and byte 2 of the First season (They didn't have the very first and it's got me crabby) I also bought the Smeg Outs tape.
I would love to borrow byte 1 of season 1 and all of season 3, which I haven't seen, but you'd better not, because I'm getting obsessive and fanatical and I'll hate hate HATE to part with them. It's just better if I buy them on my own that way I can covet to my heart's content.
Thank you for the offer though! It means a lot!

Yeah, it sucks trying to buy those in stores, as it's really hit or miss which ones they'll have in stock. No big deal not having the first, though. I think I watched seasons 3 and 4 before I ever got 1 and 2. I'd like to get 5-8, but now I'm wondering if maybe someday they'll be on DVD. I've kind of vowed not to buy any more tapes. I haven't seen Smeg Ups or Smeg Outs either; I'll bet they're hilarious!

Classic Krissy Posted Aug 1, 2000
Oh my God you have no idea how funny they are. I think that Smeg Ups is much funnier than Smeg Outs, but there is some great footage of the actors at a convention in '95 in Smeg Outs.
I watched the second part of Series 1 and the first part of Series 2 last night. I love it so much. Series 2 is fast becoming my favorite. Eventually I'll own them all! Mwuaahahaha!
I give the finger to DVD until it gets to a point where I can actually afford one. Then I'll buy the one with both VHS and DVD capability. I have about 150 movies. I don't want to not be able to watch them.. ever.

Series 3 and 4 are fun. Holly's a she.
As for DVD, well, what you do is add a DVD player to your system (keeping your old VHS machine). I've seen DVD players under 200 bucks. They'll be really hot for this Christmas I'm sure.
I only have about 2 dozen VHS tapes, so I was dying for DVD to get to the price where I could buy one. I was ready to start buying more movies, but I didn't want to buy them on tape. I have all of 7 DVD movies at the moment, and holding, because things like my new higher rent and, erm, car thingy, kinda put an end to carefree movie buying.

I know... I own season 4 now. The ones I have are
Season 1 - byte 2
Season 2 - byte 1 and byte 2
Season 3 - none
Season 4 - byte 1 and byte 2
Season 5 - none
Season 6 - byte 1
Season 7 - none
Season 8 - none
But I've read all the scripts through Season 6 so I know all the original plotlines.
I'm currently indulging in all sorts of s*****c spending that's getting me into trouble. *does the "I don't care if the repo man come" dance*

Yep. Awwww... CD, thanks for the offer. Really. That's really very nice of you. I think, though, that I'm doing allright for now, and if I break up my buying sprees to coincide with paydays I should be able to purchase 'em all. I don't want to put anyone out before I'm despirate.
I've just found out via an RD message board that I'm a "curry cultist". MMMMMmmmmmm Lister....

And with regards to Andy, I'm glad I'm taking this time. It's really clearing my head. I'm starting to see that where we are now is very unhealthy. I love him, I want a life with him. He says he loves me, but he can't marry me.
He's loving me, but leaving himself a loophole, and with my fear of abandonment and being sad and lonely all the time, we're not going to get closer, I don't think. We've had an international relationship for over a year now, and I think I'm done. I think that he's the one for me, but if he won't step up to the plate, then he's obviously not.
I'm a fun, pretty, intelligent, good woman. He's a fun handsome, intelligent, good man. There may be nothing at all we can do about this situation, but I don't think it can remain the way it is.
Which is a shame, becuase I really would love to marry him and move to London and have small people in the house.
Again, we'll see. We'll see what this time apart does for him.

Smeg YES I'm a convert! Have been for a while. I actually read the first two books before I watched the shows. I want the second two books, but they're only for sale in England... totally goit-y... Smegging smegs don't know how to market books...
What I love about the books is that it explains how Lister got on Red Dwarf, and what Liser and Rimmer met, and how Kryteen killed off the crew of the Blue...uh...name, name.... anyway, he washed the mother board of the main computer with soap and water, and killed everybody.
And may I just say that living in BTL sounds very attractive right now...
Oh, and Krissy, big squidgy hug?

Thank you for that big, squidgy hug. I've still got this thin thread of hope that everything will work out and a year from now I'll be chuckling at how low I felt.
I just ordered the audiobook of Craig Charles reading "The Log". MMMmmmmmmmmm Listery.... I also am dying to get all of Llewellyn's books.

Good grief! I hadn't relised that there were so many of you across the pond! I've watched since I was a boy and loved every minute of it until series 7.
How does RD get shown In the US? I can see the ad's totally destroying the flow and pace of the programme.

I have never actually seen them on television, although in some States their Public Broadcast System (PBS) affiliate will play them. I've only got the videos.
Mostly it seems like videotapes and word-of-mouth to me. But then, I'm relatively new to the phenomenon.

They get shown without commercials on PBS. PBS is funded by viewer contributions (pledge drives, which disrupt any programming far more annoyingly than commercials), a small bit of governement money (federal and/or states) and grants from both corporations and non-profit foundations. It has gotten to the point where corporations do get to put on mini-commercials (about 10-15 seconds with much stricter guidelines on what they can do versus regular commercial tv). Many of the grants cover specific programs which are produced especially for PBS, so basically you only ever see these promos as part of the beginning and ending credits, so it's not too bad. Fully imported shows like Red Dwarf are shown solely at the discretion of individual PBS affiliate stations. Half-hour shows don't get interrupted by credits/promos anyway.
Incidentally, Dr. Who is probably still more popular than Red Dwarf, I would gather. I don't know for sure. It's all reruns of course but Dr. Who has been playing here for years. (Never been into it.)

Thanks for the info. I've always wondered how Americans got into it.
With all these PBS's wouldn't it make more sense if they all merged and formed a US equivlent of the BBC?
As for 'Doctor Who' it's one of those shows you've got to watch from birth to get into. But everyone in the UK loves it. It's become something of a institution.
