Ahh but "sense" isn't something we worry about too much here. Actually, I grew up on English humor. From Flanders & Swann to Monty Python, etc. I had heard about Red Dwarf for a long time, but my PBS station never played it and finally I decided that I had enough of a crush on Craig Charles to go ahead and buy the tapes. Now I'm buying them like mad and showing all my friends and they want to buy the tapes, etc.
I think I'm going to have to get cable soon so I can watch at least some good BBC programming. They play a little BBC Prime here every night which I enjoy watching.

Yep the Beeb is best. But recently there's been a bit of a drought regarding imaginative programming, (although that should be fixed in the next couple of years thanks to a new DG (Director General).
On the point of ENGLISH humour I should point out that you probably meant BRITISH humour (England is to Britain what Texas is to the US)
There is a lot of overlap in humour in the UK but what distinguishes English humour is that they (particularly in the south) find repatition funny. There is a sketch show called 'The Fast Show' which seems to consist of nothing but a few different characters doing the same joke week after week. The show is universally hated outside England but in that dark land it's won awards.
And yes I AM Scottish.

Thanks. I've been there.
And I think I meant English humor, allthough I'll say British humor if it makes you all happy and squeezy inside and included.
British humor.

You did mean british humour- Monty Python was heavily influenced by a series called "q5" which was written by Spike Milligan who happens to be Irish.(Ireland being one of the british isles counts as british even though it's a different country.)

I started watching Dr Who in 1982 when it first started showing where i lived in Georgia. I was 8. I started watching Red Dwarf in 1994. Monty Python was an early influence from my father, i'm not sure when, around the mid eighties i expect, beta tapes were available for rent.
