Entry: Drawing people, objects as good as you would like to - A1018027
Author: Slamex - U224067
Here's something I think could help discouraged people gettint to draw again.

I liked this a lot.
It is neat, concise and useful.
Some things I thougbt of while reading:
I would change the heading myself. You could drop the "people, objects", as the entry could just as easily be concerned with drawing anything. "How to draw as good as you would like to" makes a good tag-line, I reckon.
And the final paragraph: I think you should either expand on it or excise it completely. You don't need to mention hypothetical other entries - keep the focus on this one.

Thanks for your comments. I'll change the title accordingly.
I will change the last paragraph by 3 or 4 others wich will explain really how to do stylish drawing. I think it is important and much different from realistic, observation-based drawing.

Here we go: I added instructions to stylish drawing. I tried to touch most of the important aspects and stay concise. Think I succeded.

Good advice, sensibly put across.
Do you want any pedantry on spelling or grammar? I for instance would change the title to "How to draw as well as you would like".
I don't know whether the link to the entry on 'drawing' adds value to the entry - the linked entry is not in the Edited Guide (though I don't think it says anywhere that you ought not to link to normal entries in h2g2, though I am aware that when an entry does make it in, it is given a new number, so your link would only connect to the unedited version)

Thanks for your advice!
You may be right about the title, but I prefer it beggining with 'Drawing' rather than 'How'.
Does 'Drawing as well as you would like' seem to be a good compromise?

Hi SS!
I like this entry a lot!
I imagine you don't know this - I didn't when I started - you can't link to an unedited entry, so you'll need to take the link out.
Also spotted a typo - developped > developed.
If it were me, I wouldn't assume that the artist is a he, I would usually put s/he or reword it so that the issue of gender doesn't apply.

SS,
Another thought - perhaps the title should read 'Drawing as well as you would like to' - better grammar!

The thing attracting the most attention is the title - and no-one agrees!
How about a shakespearian twist:
Drawing, as you like it.
This could go on and on.
If you're accepting suggestions for alterations:
Succeding > succeeding
wainting time > waiting time
mediums > media
crayons does > crayons do / crayon does
than if they are > as ones / as one
coloring > colouring (British spelling preferred)
I agree with ZSF a little rephrasing is needed to degender the pronoun (but I dislike s/he as inelegant)
If you ever get agreement on the title, I look forward to seeing this in the EG

Thanks for taking time to point those mistakes, Pimms!
I corrected the phrase so the artist is no longer a 'he'. In the process of looking for 'he's I noticed that the brain impersonation is also male, so I changed it to 'it'.
as for the title, I think we should aim to the simplest thing.
'Drawing made easy'
'Drawing well'
or even
'Drawing'
Though I liked my original approach for the title. I believe it's attractive.

I'm surprised you fail to mention the book: "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain". It speaks to the core of what you have written, and provides in detail some of the exercises you mention, and some others that can be useful to the same effect.
I think your comment on tracing misses the point. You trace things to relearn not only the muscle memory you used when you drew the original, but to also recall to your brain the things you were thinking when you drew your original. (and I find it a great way to get into the minds of artists who I like, and allows me to better to learn their style, or to make a synthesis between their style and mine) A copier would never help you with any of these.

Well, most of the tips I give comes from my drawing classes, wich contained a lot of that right-brain left-brain theory. I just wanted to keep it simple and focus on effects and exercices more than theory. Observation stands for right-brain, stylish for left-brain.
However, I would really like to include an exercise book list. The problem is, the ones I know are in french and probably not widely available. I will add the one you mentionned, and if you have more books to recommend, I would be glad to add them as well.

Great entry Slamex! What do we all reckon about this one, then. Is it ready to go into the Edited Guide yet? I think it's very close. Slamex, do you want to add any book titles.

Theory can safely be ignored, and I think your terminology works. I do agree with Italic Sam that this is a nice entry, indeed.
There is a dutch book that studies how folks make aesthetic decisions. The name is currenly escaping me and I cannot find it by aimlessly browsing Amazon. I am thinking the guy's name was Ardken and the book name was "The Mind's Eye" or the "Visual Eye".
There's no reason not to mention one or two books in French. With ebay and a friendly bookseller, it's amazing what you can find nowadays.

Still a good Entry
I think it is ready, any scouts out there?
Some of the grammar could be tweaked, but that is the pedant in me, it is already easily understandable, and follows Writing Guidelines.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Great!
I'd like to know if I can add one or two pictures myself, even if I'm not an official community artist.
Congratulations - Your Entry has been Picked for the Edited Guide!

Hello there!
I think I've finished subediting your "Drawing as well as you would like to" entry. It was great, I really enjoyed reading it! If you want to have a look at the new version before I return it to the Editors, please feel free to wander on over to my space and make any comments you like. Any problems or anything, just leave me a message and I'll see what I can do.
As for adding your own pictures, I don't think it's possible, but I'll check and get back to you on that.
Sarah
