h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Anyone who uses a certain american software pogramme to write work (Begins with W and seems almost ubiquitous nowadays.)will know that even if you think you've got UK rather than american english it will still give you some american spellings. I have been teaching it Queens english but it's not quite finished yet. Which really annoys me. And why does it have to be supplied to the UK with English(american) as the default setting?!?!

Those spell check things annoy me as well. I wrote a piece for here a few weeks ago and wanted to spell check it with british english, so it would look nice for a majority of itss readers. I couldn't do it !

I'm impressed with the way the MS word-processor defaults to both English (US) and English (UK) and chops and changes according to when it will most annoy me. Why do they do versions of the Windows for Norwegian dialects and Malay but not 'standard' English?

We in Canada are stuck in the middle. And why does Corel (a Canadian company) sell Wordperfect to Canadians with English(U.S.) as the default. And, actually, why is the guideml tag for setting font colour spelled "color"?

HTML tags are always spelled with a US spelling, as it is from the US and US companies that W3W standards are set.

Yeah, but you'd think they'd do better with GuideML. It uses align="center" as well.

But I don't think it allows tags, praise be. Horrid things.
