i have so many fave quotes from HH that it boggles the mind. i think i quote HH more often than monty python!

the babel fish/god thing may be my fave if i were forced to make a choice at gunpoint. then there's the biscuit story that arthur tells fenchurch while waiting for the train. the art of making sandwiches - a gem! not HH, but the description of what it truly means to sleep in 'long dark tea time' - i crack up just thinking about it.

i can't bring myself to finish reading salmon of doubt 'cause then i will have read the very last thing ever by DNA, and that's far too depressing to really think about. damn. smiley - sadface

Spoiler! STOP!

Slight smile raised on my lips when I was reading one particular interview from Salmon of Doubt. There, DNA tells the famous bisquit story as hes own personal experience.
Also, a very funny addition to the story was the notion, that there actually has been another person in England for years with the very same story, only without the punchline. =)

I actually found the electronic, thinking and speaking gizmos in the Handbook most entertaining 'character' as a whole. Depressed Marvin, paranoid lifts, overly enthusiast doors, space crafts computer going into panic stricken madnes and so on.

I am trying to read "Salmon" at the moment, its been a long while since we have had any DNA to read, so I am having to get back into his unique style. Every time I pick up the book to continue with the next chapter I find myself saying a prayer for him and his family. I still can not believe he has passed away. Loosing DNA was like loosing a religious icon, heart-breaking.

So long and thank for all the fish, and all that

Vonnie, DNA'S most un-worthy subject.

"Loosing DNA was like loosing a religious icon, heart-breaking."

Given that DNA was a committed atheist, I think that may be an inappropriate simile, but I agree with the sentiment.

"If that's there sales pitch, what must it be like in the sales department?" smiley - headhurts

ZAPHOD: "Computer, what evasive action can we take?"
COMPUTER: "Uh, none, I'm afraid."

"Okay, we've got to take full manual control now." This thread is getting needlessly depressing. smiley - erm We're gonna need to start a whole new, happy "how can you pick just one" conversation if this keeps up. smiley - doh

Truly, the whole Hitchhiker's Guide was just well-done. It is not only impossible to single out a favorite moment, it is unfair.

The whole thing is just a perfect string of one-liners that tell an equally hilarious story. It is well written, well produced, and plain funny. We may never see its equal. And Adams is much missed and much loved. As for me, I'm popping the tapes in again and giving them another run right now.

Think happy thoughts! Now, go soak your towel in a cup of tea and use it for hand-to-hand combat! Or, go stick your head in a pig! smiley - jester
