I've had Rheumatiod arthritis for 13 years or so now. With the help of medication, its been under control. For several years its been stable, no operations for 4 years and no nasty steroid injections for longer than that. So at the beginning of last year, i was signed-off from the hospital. 'Yippee' no more endless hours sat in a waiting room, no more X-rays and being prodded and poked about...freedom!!
So why am i writing this journal? Because its taken a nose-dive. smiley - sadface For a couple of months now its been getting worse. Now its unbearable smiley - cry Swollen joints, constant aching which in turn means sleepless nights. Even the most simple tasks have become a battle of will. Its at its worse first thing in the morning. My fingers are so swollen i can't bend them, so filling a kettle and making tea is a mission. Getting dressed and un-dressed is a fiasco as my arms don't want to lift above my head without pain shooting up them, even flicking a light switch can be a problem. Thanks heavens i have lever taps! Its clear the medication is no longer doing its job, i guess i've finally got immune to it. I'm seeing the doctor this morning, i'm hoping something can be sorted out quickly. I was'nt expecting this to happen, i thought that if it came back it would be a gradual thing.....No such bloody luck! smiley - grr
Ok, rant over, i just needed to get this of my chest. smiley - brave

smiley - cheerup That is indeed a sore and painful condition, Venus. Have you ever explored 'alternative' medicine and dietary needs? E has a very sore excema condition and I took her to see a lady who 'investigated' her condition with crystals. She made up a special drops for her and it didn't cure it, but it did help. Call me flaky if you want but when your desperate, you'll try anything. Good luck with the smiley - doctorsmiley - hug

alternative madication interferes with what i'm already taking. There are foods which can aggrevate it, i avoid those mostly. Red wine, anything acidic like fruit juice, orange in particular. Red meat is another, i don't eat that very often. Unfortunately RA is carried in the blood so there is no cure. Its my immune system in overdrive, mutant white cells attack healthy tissue at the joints, which produces the pain and swelling. Immune suppresants keep it under control.....mine are'nt working now smiley - sadface

smiley - sorry, I've read this only now, so it's not a bug you can shake off smiley - sadface
I'm getting arthritis in my hands and feet now, but it's still harmless, and the pain isn't permanent, so I can't really imagine what life with your aches must be like smiley - yikes
I wish there was something I could recommend , but there isn't smiley - sadface
Will you have to go back to hospital now ?

Hi Jinty smiley - smiley
If i'm decrepit now, what am i gonna be like when i do get old!! smiley - laugh
Hopefully once i get back to the hospital, they can sort out my medication. The doctor is'nt allowed to change it, i have to see the specialist as he authorised the medication in the first place. smiley - erm
I would'nt normally moan about it, but its really got me frustrated. I guess some people cannot understand whats its like to suddenly no be able to normal things like fill a kettle, without it becoming a major issue 'cos your finger just don't want to bend anf your wrist has no intention of supporting the weight. smiley - grr

Sorry to hear about your hip. I know how painful that can be. Levitation would be a good power to posess eh!
Take care Jinty xxx
