The Queen Mum has apparently been hit by a car outside the post office. He old nutty uncle, who she is caretaker of, has called me but it's very hard to get any sense of what he's saying. If I've understood him correctly she's undergoing some surgery.
I managed to get the name of the hospital she probably was taken to, and now I'm waiting for someone - hopefully better informed person - to call me back.
Mum doesn't answer her mobile phone, which is a bad sign.
Guess it's about time to check flights across the pond and hope they'll let me in.

Oh, gosh, I hope she is not seriously injured or too traumatized. Good luck sorting getting there to be with her. I'll be thinking of you both- keep us posted.
It hardly seems adequate right now, but !

After being put on hold a gazillion times I finally managed to find the hospital and ICU where she was taken.
Bad tidings, really bad tidnings... Severe brain damages and on Waran (Coumarin) which obviously stops the neurosurgeons from drilling any holes in her head.
I've spent ages giving consent to medical procedures. Very odd feeling. I'm used to a health care system where we do what the patient needs from a medical point of view, not after what boxes on a piece of paper that are ticked.
Anyway I must book flights across the pond, cancel a trip to London, get my colleagues to do my work while I'm away, get my bossĀ“s permission to take an unplanned leave, cancel my own upcoming appointment with our neurosurgeons etc.
And on top of that there is a nutty old grand uncle that needs to be cared for 24/7...

Finally managed to book some flights - the first leg between the Far North and the Hub in the Middle was most difficult as usual. Few flights and many passengers booked already.
Guess I'd better hit the sack now. princess and DJ, who came to me a couple of hours ago seems to be way past bedtime. Well, time to put the hatchlings to bed I assume. I my kids, those who live in town offered to come to me, and the one off shore demands frequent updates.

Oh hell, this is dreadful news.
Please look after yourself, dragonqueen. I'll be thinking of you.

Thanks, all
It warms a bleeding heart to have caring friends.
Presently at w*rk sorting out what can't be left to anyone else. My colleagues have volunteered to cover for me. My boss was very understanding and I've been granted leave as long as I need.
Phew - all this practical stuff to sort out. But at the same time I'm sort of glad there is all this practical stuff to deal with. It forces me to stay focused.
But I guess I'm not. This morning I even forgot my already made morning coffee until breakfast was over...

We feel really useless at the awesome task ahead of you, dq, and just wish to give you strength to face it all. Which town does your mother live? Is it in the UK? I ask because you can call upon Social Services to take care of the great uncle whom she was caring for. That's really beyond your capabilities, living so far away, and your first priority right now is being with your Mum. Have you organised cat-sitters alright? or will they have to go into a cattery? I really wish we could help more, but you know we're here, if only to sound off on.
and take care of yourself, stay focused and keep yourself safe. Accidents happen when you're distracted, as we just learned

Oh my, DQ, really sorry to hear this.
And with the USA being that far away, it must be a hell to organise things. Hope you'll get some more info soon, and that it's not as bad as it sounds.

Just talked to the ICU . Nothing has changed, Mum is in critical condition but stable at the moment. The neurosurgeons still consider her to be unfit for surgical intervention.
I'll leave early tomorrow morning and will arrive at the other side of the pond some 20 hrs later.
