OK, heres the deal. It seems to me that the author is whats important here. Good writer=good book. So why not list a few authors here.
Neil Gaiman: If you are a fan of the guide, you've probably heard of him. Similar sense of the absurd, great research, compelling characters.
George RR Martin: Intricate, great plot, suspensefull.
Orson Scott Card: Prolific in so amny genres. Interesting, but generally lacks depth. Hard to put down anyway.
Dean Koontz: The Celliari to Stephen Kings Mozart. A great writer who I suspect is somewhat overshadowed by King. A master of shock and suspense.
Kristen Brittain: Few books but great characters. Good plot, interesting characters
Tom Clancy: Started strong has recentl started believing what he writes
Terry Goodkind: Great series starting with Wizards First Rule but has turned some of his books into a not-even-thinly veiled set of his own political opinions.
Stephen Ambrose: Factual but never dry. You'll find heros in his pages and the best part is its all true.
Of course there are always the classics too: Dickens, Swift, Hugo, and a few others.
Anyway, those a a few quick thoughts.
Key: Complain about this post
