What, no Colorado!??
a girl called Ben Posted Feb 6, 2003
Funny you should mention Burning Man, Lentilla. ~jwf~ suggested it as an alternative or an addition to the Gilroy meet. The only time we could see ~jwf~ is at the same time as Gilroy. If we saw him then, we could make Burning Man a month later. Why don't we gang up on GTB and twist his arms?
Seriously, this idea appeals to me, because we can see the Gilroy folks anyway, they can still do the garlic thing, and we get two festivals, one for petrol-heads (the F1 Grand Prix is in Quebec which is what is luring ~jwf~ out of the Maritimes) and the other for - well - for whoever Burning Man IS for.
What do you think?

Good luck guys
If you do go to the Burning Man ( with envy) chuck a couple of Britney Spears singles on the fire for me, you iconoclastic cats!
Have a memorable journey.

I am in Colorado. I might be able to meet you all somewhere on the trail.
There are all kinds of outdoor summer Music Festivals in Colorado and it is awfully pretty!

I'll take the right, you take the left...!
I think the Burning Man festival is worth it, but it's something I've heard a lot about, and never gotten to go see. I think you should go for it!
And Colorado is worth a look or three. For a nice relaxing side trip, try the Silverton-Durango train ride through the mountains - authentic coal-burning train.

That is a nice train ride. I have to relate this one story about that train and a certain (American) family that rode it to Silverton one midsummer afternoon.
A friend and I were camping for an extended time near Molas pass (just a bit south of Silverton). We were fishing in runoff and snow melt lakes in the rockies in the summer of '94. Well, after about 11 days of hiking and camping (carrying everything on our backs, literally living off of the fish we caught and some trail mix and a few other dry goods, our luck with the fish was such that we had to hike into Silverton for more supplies and a hot meal or three before trekking/hitchhiking back to Molas pass for our truck and our ride back home to New Mexico. So we were walking through town, revelling in our good fortune and the good time we made hiking (though footsore and more than a little dehydrated) and the prospect of a nice meal and a or two to celebrate our virile manly survival skills, when we passed a family of four walking the other way towards us. They were nicely dressed, with their youngest wearing an obviously freshly-purchased Mickey Mouse tee and Goofy cap. Just as we were within earshot, she (about seven years old) said, "Look Mommy! Mountain Men!"
After a good on our part (and some embarrassed chuckles on theirs) we had a good look at ourselves in the reflection of a store window. Yup, the beards, the dirt, the smell of campfire smoke and slightly burnt trout ... we were indeed, Mountain Men.
One of my fondest memories of that year.

That is a great way to backpack, the best. Getting off in the middle of no where and hiking further in.
The train ride is a jewel. You will need to get reservations. It gets booked up quick, check as soon as possible.
Oh If you do that I could take the train ride with u all!

Burning Man is for you!
Just remember to dress up for it and to leave all commercial things behind.
Wish I could be there.
