Happy Hallowe'en
anhaga Started conversation Nov 1, 2011
Another generation of trick or treaters has started arriving as night begins to well and truly fall. And they're accompanied by another generation of parents. I suspect that I've seen some of these parents at my door in costume on previous spooky evenings. Some of the parents look so young!
I really love this night of gift giving. At no other moment do people happily give gifts to every stranger they meet at their door in the night. No expectation of return, wide-eyed happy kids, neighbours starting or renewing friendships. Pure, stress-free fun and neighbourliness.
Parents who bring their kids to the mall are missing out and so are their kids. Churches who rail against the evening's celebration are missing the point and an opportunity. . . .
This ale is really good!

I had two bunches to the door. The first was just kids. There was probably a parent lurking somewhere in the background, but it's dark out and I didn't see. I hadn't planned for this (I don't plan for anything), but managed to dig up some chocolate.

Just had another gaggle of five: two from Hogwarts, one from the Israeli Defence Forces, and I sort of lost track of the other two.
I better cut back on the candy per kid ratio or I'll run out.

and another four: assorted fairies and a mime (and a witch mother in the background)

Two more. I think from Hogwarts, but it's hard to tell sometimes.
There was a wonderful tiny little Space Shuttle astronaut (Canadian flag shoulder patch<mapleleaf)earlier. I would have killed for that costume when I was little.

I felt sorry for that last kid: a red-shirted ensign from Star Trek. Some alien is bound to roll him for his candy tonight.

I think they're all done.
Time to bring the s in and get ready for a good sleep.
Tomorrow I've got a lot of processing to do for future pies.

I did SFX for the Haunted House schtik this year
I also hid behind some black tarp and poked it outward at my victims whilst laughing goulishly & shining a light on my fright-wigged physiognomy
Was rewarded with screams of happy terror!
~~~
Did someone mention pie?
