Next week I'm having my first stay in hospital since I was born, so 34 years isn't a bad innings.
When I say I'm having an operation at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, people always ask, 'Can you tell me more about it?' Well, the Hampshire County Hospital was founded in 1736 and Florence Nightingale helped move it to its present sit in Romsey Road in 1868, when Queen Victoria granted it the Royal prefix. Located at the top of a very steep hill, next to the cemetary (presumably full of people who didn't survive the journey from the station up to the hospital, and not full of their patients) and opposite Winchester Prison, on one side of the road is a dark, gloomy, forbidding looking gothic building, and on the other is a prison.
I assume it's the hospital they're asking about...?

The good news is that the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Trust is in the top 20 in the latest league tables 
The bad news is that they're judged on profitability
