Today for the first time since I got married I cycled to work - 6 miles each way. Not only 6 miles, but 6 Mainland miles, with 2 motorways, a river, and an international airport between my house and my job.
Fortunately National Cycle Network Route 23 (Reading, Berkshire - Sandown, Isle of Wight via Basingstoke, Alton, Winchester, Eastleigh, Southampton, East Cowes, Cowes and Newport) came to my rescue, with the new cycle route meaning there aren't many roads to cycle along, but cycle paths and two parks (Eastleigh Lakeside Country Park and Riverside Park) to cycle through. I was very tempted to cycle through the ford, but couldn't see how deep it was and went over the bridge instead - I didn't think turning up to work soaking wet would go down well at work, especially when I've applied for a promotion...
